Anyone know why?

I assume it's because the heads of those companies are themselves liberal or conservative. Doesn't really matter to me though. For every liberal media group there is a conservative one so it all evens out in the end IMO.

I don't know if the owner of Fox News is a conservative or not, but I think they have tapped into a market of viewers like myself who were tired of the liberal slant in the interpretation of the news. Most conservative folk like myself listened to talk radio for years to get the other side of the story. Now that FOX is an option, I find myself listening to more liberal radio than I used to!

It depends, most are slightly conservative (they don't get any attention) but FOX and such take neocon to a whole new level. Some others, like TIME, are liberal.

Really depends on which you want to listen/watch/read. Personally, I've taken a liking to FOX because I hear stories on there that I see on others several hours later. Newspaper, it's pretty well neutral where I'm at (at least the local paper is). Another reason why I started watching FOX is because I get to see stories from another point of view the other stations.

Luns, which hosts do you listen to on the radio? I listen to both Rush and Hannity. When I'm not listening to local Detroit sports talk, that is.

I agree with you serbia almost word for word... Most of the media IS liberal. Except for fox news and most talk radio shows, although there are liberal radio shows as well. Savage nation baby all the way . I like Hannity as well. How about them tigers btw serbia?? not doing so good are they?

Don't even get me started on the Tigers. I've been expecting a collapse, and here it is, just like last year. Fortunately, the Tribe is also scuttling about like idiots too. It's the only reason Detroit even has a chance.

I never used to listen to liberal radio until Bill Press. I disagree with the guy but I met him once along with Cal Thomas and he was a real personable guy. I have to pick him up from Los Angeles KTLK 1150 AM.

My favorite radio show is the John Ziegler Show on KFI 640 AM. He's on nights from 7:00 - 10:00 pm. He's Libertarian and makes sense. He criticizes both parties, which forces me to deal with my own bias. http://www.johnziegler.com/

Laura Ingrahm is my favorite conservative talk show. It's like listening to a polite version of Rush Limbaugh. I only listen to her on Tuesdays though as I'm driving home from work. 920 AM in Indio.

It's all sensationalist Bullshit, regardless of its "political" leanings.

Either way they still have to care about their ratings, and as long as ratings outweigh news it's all crap.

I know who Rupert Murdoch is. I also know that just because someone makes a statement on Wilkipedia doesn't mean it's absolutely true. Fox also puts out a lot of filth in their programming that social conservatives like myself don't appreciate.

That being said, if he's conservative...he's conservative. Fox News is definitely right-wing so it appeals to people like myself. I also believe that Fox is so popular because they make a concerted effort to put on the most beautiful newsbabes they can find. I mean seriously, I'd rather watch Michelle Malkin & Kirsten Powers argue about anything.

liberal and conservative are outdated terms, considering the general trajectory of both parties seems largely the same.

I'd say more jingoistic than anything else. You could call that conservative, but liberals tend to love wrapping themselves in the flag, too, so I guess it mostly just panders to the audience.

serbia, luns, fosho, and anyone else: please, i beg you, before it's too late, get an education. i have been fortunate in this area, and i can tell you, american media is all conservative. everything is done for posturing, ratings, and making revenue. they do not care about you or any political position. it is completely naive to assume that the political agenda of a media conglomerate is determined by the "personal beliefs" of their respective CEOs. in fact, it's naive to think media conglomerates have strictly political agendas; they exist to make money (of course, this is bound up w/ politics, but the bottom line is the key). think about it this way: the GOP is the party of big business, always has been. major media corporations are big businesses....hmmm.....

but here's the key issue: since the US has such a weak labor/progressive history and a huge imperialistic tradition in the last 50+ years, pretty much every mainstream media outlet we have is conservative, relative to the rest of the world. i'm sure there are tons of other factors, and i hope someone here can educate us. there's just not much of a true "liberal" element in the US, therefore the media is not liberal as such. just relative degrees of conservative.

as far as the usefulness of the terms, i agree w/ qeee, but we gotta work w/ what we've got. and to all you fox news lovers, the truth is you've been duped into thinking dems, msnbc, cnn=liberal, GOP and foxnews=conservative. your viewing and listening patterns simply match your voting patterns. i attribute this to the superior savvy nature of the GOP and rupert murdoch's people. the thing is, it's easier for you to think of things in broad (and hateful) categories, and it's much easier for politicians and companies to sell you shit when you think this way. so they put it out there, and you suck it rite up.

until you learn to think for yourself and understand things from at least a marginally global/rational perspective (this is where education comes in), you're just a pawn for the best propagandist/marketer out there.....

Are you aware there is a legitimate news show on tv where the person telling the news also strip teases at the same time. Not in the conservative US though. You can't even say racial slurs unless you belong to the race in question on our tv. Can't say fag unless your gay and so on, unless you mean cigars. I challenge our mock/real news shows to have stripper hosts! No, wait, god no. Nobody wants to see Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert do that. Maybe some conservatism is a good thing.

Spellcheck says otherwise on that last bit, and I couldn't care less about the other, I don't smoke, but thanks for pointing that out.

rechecked about conservatism vs. conservativism, looks like you were right after all. It looks quite weird to me though, since it doesn't follow the usual rules for word-formation.

English is about making up dumb language rules only to break them at every possible opportunity. I'm so glad I was born into it; I'm extremely impressed by people figuring it out otherwise.

How to get this back on topic... Does anyone know what country the stripper news anchor stuff comes from and why the US doesn't have anything similar?
