It was kind of a stereo-type of both.

Most people think of "Mob" or "Mafia" are from Italy, same as Thugs and Gangsta's, they aren't just in Detroit, but thats where I said, so I didn't have 20 options.

Basically consider it everyone grouped into one.
All types of mafia
vs.
All types of thugs and Gangsters.

The mafia are smart and much better coordinated, so it's an easy choice.

I think New York City would have been a better choice for gang stereotypecastitation.

The Mafia. Gangsters are a bunch of people shooting shit up, selling drugs, and pimping. The Mafia (Italian, Japanese or otherwise.) do organized crime, smuggling, and often control or influence businesses or corporations (Especially the Yakuza). Gangsters = Western ruffians, Mafia = International business that has a complicated structure and also commits crimes. The Mafia is finer, precise, romantic. They're also generally aristocrats.

Mafia pwns gangsters. Mafia is larger, more organized, and cleverer.

Detroit is so tough, not even the mob survived.

If you kill a few of the right people in the Mafia, it takes them years to recover. Thugs just keep thuggin/

Oh, and the Purple Gang ruled Detroit before the Mafia was big enough to tie it's shoes.

Shouldn't it really be "La Cosa Nostra" instead of "Mafia"?

She said that she wouldn't be telling her current boyfriend (black) that we were going for walks and stuff, because he is "very protective, and would come shoot my ass"

I told her to tell him to bring it, my mob connections could take care of him

That's different though. One independant thug ain't got nothin' on da mob. A city of thugs though is different.
