My New Job

So I just graduated College and got my first real job. I think that its a pretty good job with excellent benefits. I get paid about 35,000 a year, Which is really good for a starting accountant, espically when you take into account the depressed market in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The benefits include: 4 weeks paid vacation a year, my vision, dental and $250,000 life insurance premiums are paid out right. they pay 80% of medical premiums so my payment a month is about $50. Ten paid holidays a year, and they contribute 3% of my income into my 401 (k) plan each year without any effort on my part.

But thats not all! Once of the cooler benefits of the job is the Keg of Beer that is in the back room. Thats right, an actual keg of beer. They also pay a lady to some in twice a week to give back massages too. And a free gym membership too.

I think I hit the jackpot with my first real professional job.[/u]

sounds pretty good to me mate.

Just so that I can get this into perspective...how much would you pay for a decent flat/2 bedroomed house in albuquerque?

I only ask this, as currently I am on 25K pounds (equiv 50k bucks), but I'm finding it difficult to get onto the property ladder where I live.

OK. Would your firm take an English-qualified chartered accountant, by any chance?

Quite inexpensive. $75,000-$100,000 for a nice 2 bedroom apartment, I'd reckon.

See, that is reasonable.

35k wage, 100k for a decent house. That seems like a good balance to me..

The problem with the 100k houses around here is that they are pretty far from the city. In the city you can probably find one for about 150-200k. which is honestly really decent. To rent a 2 bedroom apartment would be about 700 to 1000 a month, depending on location. But once again realize that Albuquerque is a depressed market, wages and costs are lower here than most major cities.

Albuquerque is okay, the climate is nice but there is shit to do here. And the people are stupid and are horrible drivers. The thing I hate the most about people around here is that they think that Albuquerque is the greatest town in the world. That there is no better place. People who have spent their entire lives here in the city and never left and don't want to.

Albuquerque would be a nice place to retire, though.
