Never heard of Embraer till todays tragic shoot down.

Embraer is the third largest producer of civil aircraft worldwide after Boeing and Airbus. The company also has a significant presence in military aviation, ranking among the top 100 defense contractors. It is headquartered in São José dos Campos, São Paulo, Brazil, with offices and operations in China, the Netherlands, Portugal, Singapore, and the United States.

I was watching this unfold last night, pretty crazy stuff and lots of video. they were getting close to an airport they had been re-routed to but were doing crazy altitude climbs and dives. Early cause was thought to be bird strike and then people on the plane who survived said the air tank exploded on board and people were passing out and regaining consciousness and then passing out again with all the ups and downs.

I guess now they are saying it might have been hit by a russian missile accidentally?

I have flown on a few Embraer jets in recent years. I have also flown on a few jets made by Bombardier CRJ, Canadian Regional Jet. Both seemed like fine aircraft.

I thought it odd about some details of the flight of the crashed Embraer Jet, like the quick announcement of the "bird strike" cause of the explosion. Its diversion flight path was a bit odd, too, but I suppose the lack of nearby Airports caused a diversion across the Caspian Sea.

Was Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer jet shot down? Marks on the plane’s exterior suggest it was hit by military air defenses. Meduza considers the evidence.

And now, there is more evidence of a shoot down of that commercial aircraft by Russian Air defense.

And the US Navy brought down one of its own, too. This is NOT a good time at the shooting ranges for Russia and the USA.

This is the only Russian plane I have been on. Had a glass nose like old-school.

Back when Czechoslovakia was still Communist, and I was still young enough to go visit my grandparents in the summers, it was always the Ilyushin-62.
