I think every page on the internet should be like this, we would save tons of energy. What next, black lighted lamps? :P

if u want all of your pages like this, at least in firefox, go to preferences and under colors change background to black and the text to white. everything looks cool then.

Oh, great. I was all set to calculate how much in leccy bills I'd save every year, until I discovered that LCD screens apparently use more or less the same amount of power continuously, regardless of what colour's on your screen. This only applies to CRT. :(

Looks like I'm going to have to pull my old CRT monitor out of the attic then.

Yeah that was my first thought as well but I think it is still a worthy endeavour. If only because it gets you thinking a little about the less tangible ways in which we waste energy. There is actually some indication of very slight power savings for LCD monitors (especially OLED) but its slight, though the guy who started the thing off has now created a low energy color pallette for the web....

It also got me thinking about using user defined stylesheets (as lalal alluded too) to give this sort of appearance across all sites. But i decided with the differences being so slight it wouldnt be worth it. I guess we'll have to stick to switching everything off to save leccy... I like the idea of having power off switches for a room so as you leave it you can kill everything, no more little red and green lights from stereos and tvs lighting my life...

Well, not to go off on too much of a tangent here, I'll admit I now know a bit more about the energy consumption of CRT v LCD. I really did follow the links back on the site in order to calculate the leccy bill savings of Blackle - I'm that sad/Scottish (0.7p per year if I had a CRT monitor, incidentally) - but I was disabused of the notion that LCD displays are inherently more power-hungry than CRT. I think I picked that idea up from a Guardian supplement sometime last year.

I like it. It looks cooler. IF only everyone choose black colors
