I've played it myself on a couple of occasions. As the dice are under constant criticism maybe there is a need for a dice free variant in this club.

... or a whine-free variant (with iron muzzels for the whole table).

That comment was NOT directed as a flame or snide remark against Lector, the originaor of this thread.,, just a "smart-alec" comment.

From one or more countries, the player moves armies to an enemy country. Armies are exchanged 1-to-1. No country may be without armies at all times.

the dice-free feature seems nice, but exchanging armies 1-to-1 is..what's the word...retarded. it will be almost impossible to defend your continents well, since the maximum per territory is 4. that means for every attack staged, you can easily take it back (assuming you place all 3 armies received on a territory adjacent to the one just conquered). dice-free would be nice, but this variant won't work. in real life armies that are outnumbered don't ALWAYS lose (esp. true in RISK), but they don't shoot each other in the head simultaneously every shot (as the armies in this variant will do). the only variant of RISK that i prefer is Nuclear RISK.
