The Canadian groundhogs don't do any better. Wiarton Willie is about 25% accurate and Shubenacadie Sam, the best Canadian groundhog, only reaches a prediction rate of 45%. All are worse than a coin toss. Extremely disappointing.

You'll be happy to know that the only groundhog with a winning record is a reb. Georgia's General Lee boasts a 60% success rate. At least the rebs win at something, eh?

Meanwhile, Quebec's Fred Le Marmote died before he was able to make his prediction. Sad, sad, Groundhog Day.

I don't know what Bill Murray hated about it but as far as the finished movie, I agree with this.

Howard Ramis wanted to play it up as pure farce. Bill Murray wanted to mute the comedy a bit and make more of a thinking man's movie, explore the epistemological implications of it.

Ramis got his way, we got our laughs, Murray never forgave the lost opportunity.

I always wanted to see what happens the next day. Does he have to get THAT one perfect too?
