The French city of Grenoble recently moved to defy draconian French laws that dictate women's swimwear, setting a local policy permitting women to cover their bodies when swimming if they wish.
The French national government has subsequently declared this policy un-French and demanded that women wear revealing outfits if they want to swim in any public places such as swimming pools or beaches.
The city of Grenoble has responded by suing the national government in France's Council of State:
