This morning on the radio, it being 4/20 and all, they were having one of those phone-in polls about "What is the best stoner movie of all time?"
And all the phone-in responses were things like Dazed and Confused, and Up in Smoke, and Wayne's World.
Which is the same thing that I find when I Google "best stoner movie of all time." Which to me is total bullshit.
To me, none of those are actual stoner movies. They're stupid parodies, making fun of hackneyed stereotypes of what a stoner is.
A real stoner movie, to me, is an authentic work of art which one normally gets stoned to properly appreciate. Movies like The Wall, and Yellow Submarine, and Clockwork Orange, and Willie Wonka.
Which is it for you? And what's best example in each category?

Fritz the Cat.
'Hi, how are ya?' 'High, how are you?'

My choice is Half Baked, with honorable mention to Cheech and Chong (pick any of them),Friday, and Easy Rider.
While I'm not against a choice like 'The Wall' or 'Clockwork Orange'... these almost feel more like Acid/mushroom movies than stoner movies.

Yeah, neither am I. I think last time I did acid was 1998. Last time I did mushrooms was 2002.

Can't say I have never been stoned but by Dukasaur interpretation if I was stoned I would probably watch "What Dreams May Come" staring Robin Williams. A very visually well done movie in which I think the director could of done a better job of telling the story. Left me empty at the end but still had some good visual scenes.

Deep Throat does that for me.

Pro Tip: Great comedy is more likely to result from leaving the punchline hanging until they get it, than from explaining it...

Being one of the 300 million stupid people you just dissed....perhaps you could use your heightened limey awareness and explain that comment....?

I was exaggerating and being facetious, but it's a serious point. Not an insult. US humor is different to UK humour. In the UK people will finish a joke in their head or supply a punchline, for the most part US people don't.
There's a very old joke for example, 'What's the difference between a hot dog seller and a dog with no hind legs?'
The answer is, 'One bawls out his wares'.
Or, and I think I've quoted this one before, there was the limerick I wrote about a girl called Annie Cramp
'There was a young lady called Annie Whose dress was somewhat uncanny. Her leopard-skin pants must give her the cramps, and be very tight.'
US humor isn't 'stupid', but it is almost always obvious. One of the funniest movie moments for me was in one of the Naked Gun -movies, where someone was killed at sea. Behind Leslie Neilson as he's talking is a chalk outline floating on the water. Clever, indeed very clever. But still obvious, requiring no further explanation.

Hmmmm....ok, thank you. Using Naked Gun to personify USA is
However....I must complain your limerick didnt follow my innate sense of limerick-ness. One SHOULD rhyme thusly (IMHO):
There once was a man from Nantucket Who’s dick was so big he could suck it
He said with a grin, As he wiped off his chin,
‘If my ear were a cunt I would f*ck it'
Obvious. Rhymes. I'm happy.

Exactly, my friend. My limerick DOES rhyme, it's just left to the audience to complete it.

Mary had a little lamb, She also had a duck, She put them in the pen together, To see if they would eat hay...
It's not funny if you put the obvious ending. It's only funny when you make the person figure it out for themselves.

One can love Monty Python & The Holy Grail and also enjoy Blazing Saddles. They are not mutually exclusive.
Comedy can be many different things. Some people limit themselves with labeling and some don’t.
I’ll label the comedy I like... Funny Comedy. (and now apply the same method of defining that as that judge did when defining porn.)
Regarding the stoner movie question...
Stoner movies are movies like Dazed and Confused or Cheech and Chong. Yes they parody stoners, but when you’re high that’s what makes them funny. because no one really acts like that! Those movies are generally crap if you aren’t stoned.
Movies like Clockwork Orange or any Python Movie or Yellow Submarine. These movies are (like most movies) enhanced when high... but they are good on their own and you don’t need to be high to enjoy them.
