Freedom House has determined that the U.S. Presidential Election was rigged!

Notably, the United States dropped by 3 points in 2020 alone, dropping it out of the Democracy category and into the Panama category. It is not surprising that the country which tried to quell a legitimate democratic movement on January 6, 2021 is no longer considered a safe and free place.

For 15 years in a row, the global freedom index has been backsliding. The last time there was more democracy was when Bush and Blair were in power.

The changes have moved the country out of a cohort that included other leading democracies, such as France and Germany, and brought it into the company of states with weaker democratic institutions, such as Romania and Panama.

Freedom House has 3 main categories "Free, Partially Free and Not Free". Within those categories there is still grades though. So Romania and Panama are "Free" like the United States, but they are the bottom of the barrel, almost not qualifying. On the "You Must be This High to Ride" scale, they are wearing platform shoes to sneak in.

What's interesting is that United States scored 6 points higher than Naura, which isn't actually a country, just a giant penal colony for Australia.

So that shows you the kind of bar set for "Free".
