What type? If it's word or excel documents you could email them to yourself. If other types, I think you might have to restall.

Easy :D You save everything from your old hard drive into a compressed folder, and then put in your new hard drive in and transfer it :D

j/k, I have an idea, but I'm not sure this can be done. You may have to transfer it all onto another computer, and then back onto your new hard drive. I don't know if that would work though :?

It depends what you are trying to do...

Do you want to use BOTH HDs, or are you replacing the one you have now?

My opinion is that it is smart to have more storage space...

If you are replacing the one that you have, my suggestion is to get an external harddrive and back everything up to it... Furthermore, you could partition the harddrive you have in your computer now, put all of the files you want to keep in the new partition, and then just format C

I'm trying to replace my old, archaic 40 gig hd before it dies on me

Put the new harddrive in also. Make two partitions on it... Move all of your stuff to one of the two partitions.... Now, shut down your computer, remove the OLD Harddrive... Boot the computer back up and install Windows on the partition that does NOT have all of your stuff on it.
