RIP RBG

Postby saxitoxin on Fri Sep 18, 2020 8:11 pm

It is with great sadness that the president today announced that Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has entered immortality at age 87.

President Trump has pledged to honor Judge Ginsburg's legacy by immediately appointing a new justice to the Supreme Court who will emulate her energy and perseverence, though probably not her philosophy. Leader McConnell has further pledged that the Senate will immediately confirm the new appointment without debate or rancor so as to maintain the solemnity of the period of national mourning President Trump has proclaimed.

President Trump has released a tribute to RBG on his YouTube channel set to Elton John, known to be RBG's fourth favorite musical act.

edit - apparently the music was ambient and not added

The President has released a statement celebrating Ruth Bader Ginsburg's success as a wife to her husband (an attorney who made a fortune defending white collar criminals and helping his clients avoid tax penalties and who ultimately leveraged his wealth to obtain a circuit court seat for his wife) and a mother to her children.

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/sta ... 8555014145

She was known to be an excellent cook and could keep a tidy house with the best of them. The entire party is grateful she stubbornly rejected calls by Obama and Biden to retire prior to their terms ending. Her keen interest in personal aggrandizement and celebrity at the risk of what she believed in will be missed. When appointed to the court in 1993, many progressive groups expressed fear she would ultimately betray them while Republicans praised her self-centered worldview as a perspective that could ultimately be exploited by the party for its own benefit in the far future. Today, both turned out to be right.

Senate Minority Leader Bob Dole (R-Kan.) praised her as ā€œa good choice,ā€ while Sen. Orrin G. Hatch of Utah, the ranking GOP member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which will act first on her nomination, said that she would make ā€œa very excellent justice.ā€ While some conservative groups gave her at least partial endorsement, liberal and abortion rights groups expressed certain reservations ...

Great news - the frontrunner, Amy Barrett, is only 48 years old. Once she's appointed by President Trump and confirmed by Leader McConnell and his droogs that seat will be locked-up and untouchable for at least the next three decades! (And, actually, depending on advances in medical science maybe we can even get a solid 40-50 years out of her.) #Winning #WinningSoHard

It’s funny how the Republicans felt it was improper to fill a Supreme Court Vacancy when Obama was President. Scalia passed away in February 2016 and the Senate thought that the best course of action, the ā€œjust and fairā€ course, was to wait 8+ months for an election and another 2 months for a new President to be sworn in.

https://www.npr.org/2018/06/29/62446725 ... atters-now

Now the Republican Senate feels the best course is to get a new Justice ASAP, even though the election is less than 2 months away.

What changed?

Oh... it’s the politics. It’s NOT about letting the ā€œAmerican Peopleā€ have a voice. I’M SHOCKED! Not.

This is one of the most blatant and obvious examples of hypocrisy and the failure of Party Politics.

Vote 3rd Party... ANY 3RD PARTY. A 3rd Party won’t win today or tomorrow but if enough people vote for a 3rd Party it might actually send a message that will be read and understood. The Parties are in it for themselves.... not for The People.

Go ahead Saxi... explain how this isn;t hypocritical.

Wrong.

NPR is, quite simply, lying to you. The Republicans didn't say that.

In 2016 the Republicans said that a judicial appointment should not be confirmed when two criteria simultaneously exist (a) the president is a lame duck in his final year (not standing for for reelection), and, (b) the government is divided (the White House and Senate are owned by different parties).

These two criteria don't exist today. The incumbent president is not a lame duck and the government is not divided.

See: https://www.mcconnell.senate.gov/public ... A1154B55D0

This policy was perfectly consistent with custom and was not something the GOP invented in 2016. From the same release -

"... the Senate has not filled a vacancy arising in an election year when there was divided government since 1888 ...

The Rats want to wipe away 130 years of custom and precedent and reinvent the rules of the game for their own benefit. Tough luck!

As for Ginsburg's "dying wish" (that no one but her granddaughter conveniently heard and was not included on any final testament or affidavit) that she not be replaced until there's a new president, too bad.

She gets her seat for life. She doesn't get to take it with her to the grave.

If she'd really cared about her precious principles she would have retired six years ago when Barry was president. But her biggest priority was about setting records and cementing her legacy for the sake of her own celebrity. With allies like that, the progressives don't need enemies.

(Besides, we won't have a "new president" until 2025 anyway.)

saxitoxin.

A sith doesn't get to pick an apprentice to replace them after they die. If she didn't want Drumpht to do it she should have stepped down a decade ago.

Going for the point sounds like a plan. Plus using that picture of Amy there, she is pretty hot for a lady of such advanced years. Grab her by the pussy and swear her in.
