Scientists said on Monday they have detected in the harshly acidic clouds of Venus a gas called phosphine that indicates microbes may inhabit Earth’s inhospitable neighbor, a tantalizing sign of potential life beyond Earth.

So far the only evidence for life on Venus is the phosphine gas. There's only a 25% chance of that indicating life (extremely rough estimate) as there are a variety of non-living processes (like various geological activities) that might account for it.

Phosphine is incredibly toxic, and so few have ever smelled it and survived. Those that have agree that it's one of the most foul-smelling substances imaginable. One survivor described it as "what the diapers of Satan's lovechild probably smell like." In summary, I voted mrswdk.
