Courts refuse to keep girl's sperm

A Scottish girl who froze her sperm at a young age in order to have her own biological children one day has died, and now the courts are refusing to allow the dead girl's mother to carry out her dying wishes:

A Scottish woman is preparing to take legal action to prevent fertility doctors from destroying her transgender daughter's frozen sperm.

Louise Anderson wants to use the frozen sperm of her daughter, Ellie, to produce a grandchild.

She was transgender and identified as a girl. Ellie had her sperm frozen when she was 14 so she could eventually have her own biological children.

Her mother wants to honour her wishes posthumously, using Ellie's sperm, an egg donor and a surrogate.

Under present UK human fertilisation rules, if Ellie was in a relationship when she died, her partner would have had the right to ask for her sperm to be retained. Her mother does not have that right.

Just another case of laws written by men, for men, about women.

If they weekend at Bernies her corpse to attend the protests, I would buy a ticket to see it.

Doesn't seem like this has anything to do with her sexuality, just a matter of if a child should be brought into this world without either parent able to raise them.

Well her mother has offered to raise it. And given we don't know who would be donating the eggs it is entirely possible the mother intends to inseminate herself, so she would be the biological mother and grandmother.

What are the UK laws on incest and inbreeding?

actually in the article is says
Her mother wants to honour her wishes posthumously, using Ellie's sperm, an egg donor and a surrogate.
so while she could potentially use her owns eggs, the wording suggests she is looking to use donor egg, and she also doesn't want to carry the baby herself. This doesn't really seem to have anything to do with the dead person being trans

I believe this thread is hypocritical. I doubt mrswdk keeps his sperm, but he expects a court to keep someone else's.
