US Govt to correctly regulate ALL MEDIA

CORRECTION: saxitoxin (who knows more about American politics than me) has pointed out in this thread that the current long-overdue regulation of social and traditional media is actually being led by the Democrat Party. America's federal government has no real power over anything and Trump has therefore had no involvement in this breakthrough policy-making. Apologies.

For decades, laissez-faire aka 'hands off the steering wheel' Anglo governments have allowed their societies to run amok and wallow in chaos, with the outcomes of this 'sleeping at the helm' ranging from the relatively benign (culture wars, trolling) to the outright dangerous (slander, disinformation and fake news allowed to circulate unchecked). In no country is this more apparent than the US.

Now, President Trump has pledged to do something to clean up public discourse and put an end to the endless Fake News machines otherwise known as American social media.

President Trump has taken the extraordinary step of threatening to close down social media platforms.

Last week, the president tweeted: "The radical left is in total command and control of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Google."

And he intended to "remedy this illegal situation".

Hats off to Trump =D> =D>

Here's hoping he and other Anglo governments can take similar measures to curb their off-the-leash lying rabid current affairs entertainment aka news media outlets.

The president is not proposing to regulate free speech, he's only proposed to stop corporate welfare.

The president's party is correctly advancing legislation in Congress that would lift the legal immunity social media companies have under the Communications Decency Act. With immunity lifted, Twitter will be legally liable for the content of all 3.5 billion tweets transmitted per week. Currently, if I tweet that mrswdk has a small dick, mrswdk can sue me but not Twitter (though would lose because factual statements are protected speech). With immunity lifted, mrswdk can now also sue Twitter.

The immunity is currently corporate welfare for multi-billion dollar companies. It is a government-created loophole so that Twitter doesn't have to spend money hiring 13 million content reviewers to look at every Tweet as soon as it goes live, thereby maximizing the wealth Twitter's owners can accumulate.

If Twitter's business model is such that it will go bankrupt and have to shut-down if it has to hire 5% of the U.S. population as content reviewers, well that's their problem. If it can sustain those expenditures, then within 12 months every man, woman and child in the U.S. will be fully employed moderating each other's tweets, Facebook posts and LinkedIn updates and no one will ever have to do anything like farm or build machines; all the Chinamen and Bangladeshis can do that. The U.S. would have reached the pinnacle of economic advancement. Win-win for everyone.

Donald the Destroyer is in motion! Today he signed off on a legal order to strip anti-social media companies of their legal rights to behave however they please with no checks. Government will now regulate the information anti-social media giants such as Twitter and Facebook choose to broadcast around the world rather than simply letting the mouldy ponds fester in full view of the rest of the garden:

The Minneapolis police report to the mayor of Minneapolis, a member of the DFL Party, who President Trump has censured and called for his resignation. So this headline should say Democrats in Minnesota "regulate all media."
