Yeah it's rich how those same commentators and politicians that constantly slam the North K government as being secretive liars are also prepared to reprint literally every single story they hear about north Korea that makes them go 'lol' without so much as a cursory Google to check its credibility.

'Kim Jong Un is dead because his heart surgeon's hand was shaking so much with terror' was another good recent fake news story that has emerged from various Western sources.

Another good one they do is refusing to print anything until it has been conclusively verified by multiple reliable sources, so as not to give oxygen to rumours and possible fake news - unless the story discredits someone they don't like (e.g. Trump, Chinese government) in which case they'll gladly plaster it all over their front pages with a tiny disclaimer saying 'unverified' buried at the end.
