I understand the modern slang use of the term.
Boomer itself originally was slang anyway... so kinda hard to bitch about the slang meaning of a ‘word’ changing with new slang.
I’m gonna anyway.
“Pew Research Center defines baby boomers as being born between 1946 and 1964. The United States Census Bureau defines baby boomers as "individuals born in the United States between mid-1946 and mid-1964."
So that means the youngest a ‘Boomer’ can be right now is 55. That chick in the video is probably in her late 20’s early 30’s.
I’m outside the ‘Boomer’ generation by over 5years... I think the 1964 date has been bumped, I remember it being 1946-1959 back in the the 70’s. My 15yo daughter has called me a ‘Boomer’ when I ask her something like “What’s a Snap Map”? She’s using the current slang meaning... even though she has NO IDEA what the original meaning of the term is. To me that’s ignorance... and so she then is required to listen to me talk about the Baby Boomeet Generation and WW2 etc. for at least ten minutes.
She thinks she’s so smart because I don’t use SnapChat... IMHO ‘why bother’ cause I know it’s gonna be outdated in 5 years. I’ve been “online” since before AOL, surfing the web using Mosiac. Who here can honestly claim they were online in 1992? My younger daughter tried to tell me the other day that “lol” mean “Laugh Out Load” and said this thinking I really didn’t know!!! She was telling me I should write “lol in lowercase, not caps”... I tried to explain that when something was just “a little funny, like worth a snicker... I’ll write lol; but when it’s really funny and I truly laugh out loud I wrote LOL”... she just rolled her eyes at me.
I tried finding a good modern slang definition for “Boomer”... the way I have seen it used is generally related to an older person’s inability to properly use technology... like the way you used it.... but the Urban dictionary doesn’t mention lack of technological prowess. The best I saw...
“boomer is a viral internet slang phrase used, often in a humorous or ironic manner, to call out or dismiss out-of-touch or close-minded opinions associated with the baby boomer generation and older people more generally."
So,I guess out-of-touch with technology.
Meanwhile... I might not use a “Snap Map” but I still can manage our home network and can lock my wise-ass 15yo out such that she can’t circumvent it. I don’t think that means I’m ‘great’ with technology, I’m ok, I think it says more about her lack of technological prowess.
