Debt and credit cards are handy but I'm withdrawing more cash. Stay liquid.

Yeah because if the financial system imploded, cash would be so much more valuable than digital money. Now that all the notes are polymer you can't even put it to practical use by burning it.

I like how you've gone from 'is all this coronavirus fuss just a load of old nothing?' to 'should I be preparing for the total collapse of society?'.

I not worried about the virus. People fighting over TP, that's concerning.

The pattern of the shortages in the supermarkets is very puzzling. Long after Fb was freaking ot about toilet paper, the local stores had none. Then I guess the story of the "shortage" made everyone panic buy, and suddenly there was none. One day to do my shop I had to go into two supermarkets - the first had no meat,no milk, no bread, no tortillas,no canned tomatoes, almost no frozen veg, but tons of frash fruit and veg. The second had tons of meat, bread, tortillas, milk (and thank the powers that be, canned toms) but not a single potato, and none of the frozen dough I use to make bread.

Then yesterday I went back to the first one and they had lots of everything except paper goods of any sort. But the Indian shop where I buy my loose-leaf tea and my poppadoms had no rice or lentils.

Today I found a 4-pack of tinned tuna in Tesco at lunchtime and left feeling like a right king.

I almost never carry cash, in good times or bad, unless I have a specific plan for it.

There's an old-fashioned Chinese family downtown that makes really good soup, and they only take cash. Sometimes we go for soup with the guys after work, so if I remember I'll bring cash for that. A few weeks ago a guy at work was selling raffle tickets for his son's hockey team, so I brought in a $10 specifically for that purpose. But other than rare moments like that, I try never to use cash.

I get 1.25% back on my Mastercard. If I have to spend cash, my heart aches for the 1.25% I'm losing out on. Couple that with the hassle of pockets filling with odd change that's never enough to buy anything but always heavy enough to wear holes in the pockets, and Mastercard wins almost every time.

If my money felt like plastic, I'd probably just as soon you as a plastic card too ;)

But really though, I carry loads of cash all the time. I only feel comfortable saying that here cus none of you know who I am and can't rob me! It does make me feel safer knowing I have 500-1000 on me at any given time. Not so much because of some apocalyptic fear, I just find it useful in all sorts of situations.

Plus cash is a well know aphrodisiac for women. Date not going well? Just open up that wallet to pay and suddenly there is love in the air. Those really heavy metal invitation only American express cards apparently have a similar smell to women, so there is hope for you Duk as a no cash guy

I use cards too, and do like racking up those points or cash back but I would feel naked without cash on me.
