I'm going to see this movie next week. Maybe a WW1 British Saving Private Ryan. The trailer looks like they put a lot of effort into it.

Yeah, I've been fascinated since I first started reading about it.

I think the plot is closer to Gallipoli than Saving Private Ryan, but the cinematography looks amazing.

When the trailer for 1917 came out the first thing I looked at was the uniforms, the backpacks and all the equipment that the soldiers carried. I actually have a good collection of WW1 items. Even saddle and bridles. The trailer looked right so I decided to see it.

I give it praise for the sets, number of extras, epic filming style and pace. The two main characters were likable. The goals for the two characters were challenging but realistic within the time period.

There were good questions raised. Should a soldier ever go home knowing he will have to leave home AGAIN? My favorite, What would you trade for wine? or What is valued in a war zone?

I would have deleted only one line in the movie. It made no impact on the outcome but instantly changed the us vs. them theme.

The Germans were interesting. More shadowy figures.

Enjoyed it. Wouldn't need to see it again or own it.

I agree with most of the opinions stated. I enjoyed the movie and am glad to have seen it. It is very good and deserves the acclaim and Nominations for awards it has received so far; it is up for 10 Academy awards.

The movie is really good and is a good war movie, too. The fact that it is about WAR should appeal to those on CC.

I found it average. The bit where the bridge is broken so he has to leave the truck that was giving him a lift, walk 5 yards starts to cross the broken bridge and gets fired on by a German sniper. Why didn't the men in the truck help? They had disappeared within 40 seconds. Running the other way across the battlefield, unbelievable. And Africans in British regiments. 4/10.

The trucks drove off. The had 6 miles to go by the next bridge. The one solder has a turban. Possible. Not sure it was normal.

Yes, I know they had to go on, but they would not have got very far in the short period of time, and definitely heard the gun fire.

Interestingly enough I thought their appearance at the farm in noisy trucks and lots of troops went unheard by S.

I liked it alot, visually spectacular and great sound too... but I'm not convinced there was enough in the story to justify best picture and I don't think it will win that award. Honestly I think my vote would be for parasite, that was a great great movie.

I haven't seen Jojo Rabbit yet, anyone have thoughts on that movie?
