Why aren't Australia or NZ very good at rugby?

For a country that takes its rugby very seriously you would think it would be very good at rugby but apparently its not, compared to countries like its smaller neighbours or England?

Firstly, I'm a Kiwi so essentially enjoy watching Australia get beaten at anything.

Australia doesn't actually take Rugby very seriously..it has been in decline in that country for a least a decade, and the sport doesn't feature in the top ten sports by participation. Rugby league and Australian Football are far more popular oval ball sports.

England are currently a superior rugby team to Australia (and like telling people about it..) however they have won 1 World Cup to Australias 2. England should actually never lose to Australia, given they have 340,00 registered rugby players, compared to Australia's 87,000...In 51 tests it's actually 25 each with 1 draw. So in reality with 4 times the players, its actually England that is not very good :)

Hope that helps - one thing we antipodeans love more than beating each other at sport is smashing the old colonial oppressor at games they invented :D

Unless the current squad did it, it doesn't count. Otherwise England could claim to be a bigger super power than China because it's beaten China in all the wars they've fought in the 1800s

As you correctly pointed out in your post, Australia are not very good at throwing an egg-shaped ball around and physically overpowering other people and therefore have only beaten England at rugby twice in the last decade:

Hmm :-k

Also, you mean colonial liberator. You are welcome.

Yes, an excellent point. Dear old England, with 11 Million registered players, are wonderful football players. NZ with 1 player to every 73 in the mother country, should really be better. Definitely a work-on.

Also, you mean colonial liberator. You are welcome.

 Pretty sure that's just a straight out troll, but happy to take the bait. The Ëmpire was formed via 200 years of violent, opposed conquest and brutal subjugation, and maintained with global systems of repression. Interested to hear where the 'liberation' bit is? Oh right, bringing civilisation, religion and good manners to backward peoples. Cheers

You mean that world cup England won a few months ago? I mean we could, but it depends whether you want one thread per sport or just have this thread as an England uber alles thread.

Meh. The better team won on the day and given Kolisi's story in particular and what the win apparently means to SA, I say good for SA.
