If people forget the Get Kony guy, that was a three-week period when Democrats chose Jason Russell as their leader-of-the-hour, then he had a very public meltdown and was hauled-off to a "hospital."

It's weird how her message is basically 'let's not destroy the ecosystem that our lives depend on' and that message is somehow complete anathema to a lot of Americans.

You could stand up and say 'treat others as you wish to be treated' and Americans would somehow manage to turn it into a Democrats vs Republicans argument.

1. The automobile.
2. Population growth and urban sprawl.
3. The farming of bovines.

The corresponding things that need to be done, in declining order of importance, are:

1. Get people out of their fucking cars and onto public transit, or better yet stay the f*ck home and telecommute. Or walk, or bike, or ride a donkey.
2. Get people to stop breeding like fucking rabbits, or at the very least pack their progeny into high-rise apartments and not onto sprawling country lots.
3. Get people to eat less beef and less cow milk. Switch to more efficient meat sources like rabbits and goats, or go vegetarian.

The automobile is a double-whammy. Not only does it spew its filth into the atmosphere, but it requires the paving over of vast quantities of land for roads. 65,000 square miles of the U.S. are covered in asphalt.

I don't know how much the kid eats. I hear its not much. But the important thing is not what it's contained in, but that some fatass didn't drive an Escalade down to the Jack-in-the-Box and sit in the drive-through spewing out fumes waiting for his order.

These are all solutions proposed by the mega-rich you hate so much (every headlining billionaire in the world today is calling for fighting climate change and calling for doing it through these methods). They're solutions (doubling the gas price) that will never impact the lifestyle of the mega-rich but will limit the freedom and mobility of the working class.

But the mega-rich already know you don't listen to them. You've made that clear. So they (in this case Ingmar Rentzhog of Carnegie Investment Bank) used their wealth to hire a PR agency which plucked Greta Thunberg from her publicity whore Eurovision contestant mother and inputted their message into her crippled brain which she then recited back at you. It's the same message they have for you, it's just being fed to you in a form you find more appealing and less offensive.

Absolutely. The tax portion of the price will never go down so it would need to be increased since less volume was being sold.

$5 tax collected from selling 10 litres of fuel is 50 cents per litre.
$5 tax collected when only 5 litres of fuel is sold would be $1 per lire.

Over simplification for purpose of example. Obviously the numbers are much larger but that is why petrol is often much cheaper in the US&A than Canada. Until accounting for the exchange rate at least.

Why does the government need to always collect $5 of tax per year from gas?

They don't but... Because they are used to getting that money. Now they need it to pay themselves. Truth is they need only a portion to build roads and bridges probably lees than half of that $5.

It is exactly like everyone thinks they need a computer and a mobile phone. You don't, you need a dry hut or cave, rice, clean water and veggies.

If tomorrow someone figured out an affordable personal vehicle that could run on solar they would suddenly need to figure out how to collect the money they currently get from fuel taxes.

Also as much as I would like to drive one, shutting down the fossil fuel industry would cause an economic catastrophe. The resulting upheaval would certainly be more likely to wipe us out than most of North America flooding again.


It's kind of nice to play on a smart phone while riding in an airplane though.

American fuel tax revenues aren't ring-fenced for building roads and bridges. They're just chucked into the overall public budget, at which point the dollars raised from fuel tax become the same as the dollars raised from income tax, sales tax or any other tax. They could be spent on roads, they could be spent on food stamps, they could be spent on invading the Middle East, etc.
