Would hiding a family be possible today?

Last year I read The Diary of Anne Frank. Wondering how many members would be able to keep in secret 2 families in their home or office? Like in the book supplying: food, clothing and all the other needs. Let's say 8 people for 6 months.

How many could you supply?

Living space (bedrooms, attic, office or warehouse)
Food (3 meals a day)
Money (for all other items)
Secrecy (neighbors, office workers or the government wouldn't see or hear them)
Security (so anyone wouldn't accidentally find them)

If gov’t with total control like Nazi’s wanted to track food, especially in the cities, they could do so more easily today with computers. They could issue vouchers for food based on the reported # of people living in the household. In the city and suburban areas it would be hard to get extra food for the people you were trying to hide. You’d have to dig into your own foods supply, which would be harder to sustain.

Space and money would be doable for me... but the tougher part would be making the space private. In Nazi Germany the people helping the jewish families would have fake walls or secret/hidden doors. My house has none of these. Constructing something would take supplies and time, and more importantly skills that I don’t possess. My attic would work, but it’s not secret... easily accessible via a pull down ladder. The first place the SS would look when they come knocking.

I also imagine you could use IR technology to scan for heat signatures.... just have people vacate the house and fly a helicopter over with IR cameras... you’d find hidden people easy if they were in attics, no?

I have a huge amount of space and it is very out of the way. Needs some work but basic skills only. It has electrify.
Sadly no directly accessed water or bathrooms. Feeding 8 would 6 months would be a stretch.

Anne Frank got captured & died in a camp from Typhus..
didn't work then, wouldn't work now..

just be a legal family.. and do not put your family at risk..

there is no scenario in modern times to compare to being a Jew in Germany during WW2.. no one is out to slaughter a race of people

When we lived on the farm, we could have done it.

In the city, much more difficult.

Infrared can’t see through walls or windows, but there are hand held devices that can detect heart beats or use sonar to identify empty spaces.

She wasn't in Germany.

At just 15, she died in March 1945 at Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany two months before its liberation.

Jones you should know better than to question Nomads mastery of Nazi history. They spend alot of time at their meetings studying history so they don't repeat their past mistakes.

I never mentioned the Nazi's.. Anne Frank is Jewish history

but you seem to know a lot about what happens at those meetings you are referring too & what is discussed there... almost seems like you have been to a few..
I mean you know what goes on at them.. you say they spend a lot of time studying history at them.. tell us more about these meetings you are fluent in.. Mooie..

I've been keeping Army of God in a spare room for the last several weeks, which is why you haven't seen him posting here. No one's found him yet, despite his constant yelling to be let out. So, I'd say it's possible.

That’s cause no one is looking for him.

saxitoxin was once thought to be German, but judging by his prowess at building rape dungeons it would seem he's actually Austrian.

Fair point. I meant that she wasn't in hiding in Germany, which (hiding) was what the thread is about

It's possible but not guaranteed. A lot depends on the level of searching. I'm not sure the number of homes that already exist in my home town that have an illegal number of families inside them. But it's not like my master bedroom's door is literally behind a bookcase. (I know someone who has a house in Florida that is built that way.)

Out of interest would you even try? It's kind of an interesting reading of her diary that you've read a diary of young girl and your go to is how many of her you think you can support.

It was 2 families and another person so 8 total. Could I provide for them like in the book for a shorter time of just 6 months? The office people risked their very lives for non relatives. Amazing. It would take a lot of planning, money and a group of helpers. To be so moved to help another is possible.

"In 2016, the Anne Frank House published new research pointing to investigation over ration card fraud, rather than betrayal, as a plausible explanation for the raid that led to the arrest of the Franks.[46] The report states that other activities in the building may have led authorities there, including activities of Frank's company. However, it does not rule out betrayal.[47]". Wikipedia.

If it was betrayal I hope justice was served in this life or the afterlife.

Interesting, but I think Anne Frank died because she was Jewish and thus hunted. The excuses are interesting, of course, but they are banal.
