China could develop cancer cure, West would still criticize

This time last year, China was bad because of the plastic waste being generated by fast food deliveries:

In all likelihood, the enduring physical legacy of China’s internet boom will not be the glass-and-steel office complexes or the fancy apartments for tech elites.

It will be the plastic.

The astronomical growth of food delivery apps in China is flooding the country with takeout containers, utensils and bags. And the country’s patchy recycling system isn’t keeping up. The vast majority of this plastic ends up discarded, buried or burned with the rest of the trash, researchers and recyclers say.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/28/tech ... trash.html

This year, Shanghai has introduced new laws to ensure people recycle all recyclable waste and banning single-use plastic cutlery in restaurants. This is apparently also bad:

China is in the sixth year of a "war on pollution" designed not only to clean up its skies, soil and water but also upgrade its heavy industrial economy and "comprehensively utilize" its resources, including waste.

Improving recycling rates is crucial to China's strategy, and cities are trying to figure out what to do with the heaps of trash clogging up rivers or buried in hazardous landfills.

Citizens, however, are finding the new system complicated enough, with every item of waste now under careful scrutiny, from receipts and half-eaten crayfish to soggy cups of "bubble tea." Residents are also unhappy about getting their hands dirty.

"It's really a lot of trouble," said a 68-year old resident called Shen. "Plastic bags have to be put in one bin and if they are dirty they must be cleaned out, and then your hands get filthy. It's really unhygienic."

Correction: Americans criticize recycling. Does that really surprise anyone?

Wasn’t the quote a Chinese person criticizing Chinese waste handling policy?

What does ‘the West’ have to do with this?

Nope its normal...

Americas president also thinks that Renewable Energy doesn't work as well. But this also didn't surprised anyone.

If China cured cancer I wouldn't criticize!

But what have they actually invented in terms of modern medical cures?

Murdering minorities on demand for their organs to be transplanted?

It's who they choose to quote. There are a ton of people out there who support these measures, but the lying NYT has decided to focus on the Whinge Patrol.

When Prince Harry married Maggie Markel there were some nuts in the UK who said things about him polluting the blood line, but the lying NYT didn't publish stories full of quotes from them titled 'Royal wedding causes discomfort among British public'.

... and you KNOW this why?

Are you on the ground in China?
Maybe you live in your own bubble and the people you associate with are happy for the changes, but the majority find it to be a hassle?
Maybe the person was just bitching (like an American would do) because he finds it a hassle... but he still is going to conform because he knows it’s good?

Your whole premise is flawed.

Obviously a 68yo in any culture is more likely to complain and be resistant to change than a 19yo.

And obviously the regular folks in China are predominantly great people. Same in most places. It's a small percentage of the population that are undesirable. I mean, if you don't like murderers and corruption.

If the government is so nice there, why did they send you home? Though that seems like it might support your concept they are the best country.

Ah I see. I, apparently, have no idea what goes on in China where as the NYT - one of the outlets that published information from the completely fictional Trump dossier - can be trusted to have undertaken thorough, balanced and scientific research in the course of producing their one quote.

The NYT is a newspaper whose flaws we recognize.

You are a biased internet troll.... so I’m asking you to state why you think your opinion of the ‘consciousness of the Chinese public’ is better than the NYT’s or anyone else’s. Are you even Chinese? What part of China are you from? If you’re Chinese and you’re ‘choosing to live in London for the time being’ then you are likely in a much higher socio-economic class than the vast majority of Chinese people who don’t have that option.

I’m not judging, I’m just saying that you are not likely as ‘connected’ to the mass of the Chinese population as you pretend.

I’m not saying i’m any different in that regards. I’m a white upper-middle-class guy from Massachusetts. I honestly have a hard time understanding the level of support Trump still commands from working-class people in my area, let alone the support he gets from the working-class/working-poor in middle America. That said, I recognize and acknowledge the fact that my opinions vary from theirs and often phrase my posts in a way that acknowledges this. You however like to claim you know how all Chinese people feel / think.

Mookie, you just don't get it do you? China is doing a favor to all struggling working families throughout the world!

China steals the formula for medical breakthrough drugs like Erectile Dysfunction drugs. They reproduce it and sell it for a fraction of the costs that US Pharma does.

God bless China for helping those without the means to afford outragious prices.

I’m not criticizing you for being better-off than your average Chinese person.
I’m just pointing out some observations that demonstrate how you can’t claim to speak for over 1 billion people.

Does your response in some way reply to my points?

No... you’re just dodging... ok...

Do I know (or care0 what the song is about?
No.

I’d guess it’s the Chinese National Anthem.... but that wouldn’t make the link funny.

I wrote, "Sent home." suggesting you only left because your visa ran out.

I am conveniently leaving out the facts, that it was probably more interesting and enjoyable to live in China, and that I am slightly jelly about it.

Though I would possibly like to visit London. I have never thought of/considered moving to England. If I ever won millions of units of money. I would most likely only rent a place to stay in in London. I would have liked to have bought something in south France.

Unless you won millions of Vietnamese Dong. 1 million Dong would only be enough to pay for a modest dinner for two.

Ah, good point. I should still buy some of those awesome Zimbabwe dollars.

I did buy a hundred rupee bill at the airport one time for very little Canadian money.

If you had $1 million Canadian, I doubt you could buy a residential building in London. Maybe there is no single family dwellings there. Lots of nice multi family. I like the neighbors being in a seperate house.

For a million CND, in a halfway respectable location, you'd be looking at something like this:

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-fo ... 62374.html
https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-fo ... 44116.html

Although I googled single family dwelling and apparently that means the same thing as a detached house. In which case lawl, you're right, you'd have to move right out to the burbs to get a detached house for that money.

Personally I'd rather buy a nice flat somewhere more central.

I thought 62374 looked kind of nice until I saw the courtyard. Laff owt lowd. If you like winter you should save up and move to a small city in Canader. You could buy quite the estate for less than that.

Interestingly we just got a random robo call. Possibly in Mandrin.

Koolbak, have you ever had real Chinese food? It's pretty good.

I do love the crazy stuff immigrant Chinese guys made up to help guys like me put on weight. I'll probably eat some today.

Have enjoyed "real" mexican, french, (madarin?) chinese, russian, greek and vietnamese. Friends, customers and family from those places that I've shared cooking / drinking parties with over the years  Always amazed at the diff from the restaurants you go to.

I enjoy mexi the most. Dude made "cow head" tacos for us....said it was a go to from back home when you could scavenge the heads of animals....lol
