New York City is the largest city in the United States to declare a climate emergency.
The declaration occurred Wednesday following a vote by the New York City Council, according to the Hill. The legislation, which had overwhelming support from voters, is mostly symbolic and did not need to be signed by Mayor Bill de Blasio
