The Recommend a book thread (Fiction)

This is an easy one- recommend a book you like and, if you want ask, for recommendations.

Only rules- it does have to be fiction, and fiction in the traditional sense. Any genre, just say why.

Also, basically I'm waiting for my local bookshop to get a copy of Fall by Neil Stephenson.

I've been a fan since Snow Crash.

I loved the Gold Coast and it's sequel, the Gate House by Nelson DeMille. He usually writes spy/espianoge novels, but these are a bit different. Well written and good stories.

From Russia With Love.
Journal of the Plague Year.

Of course it's all British. I will go self-flagellate since I feel dirty now.

It's all a matter of perspective. There are some strange coincidences with him and the end times. I won't bother with reciting them though.

Yeah llama, I don't think Jim Boston is that bad.

Anyway, you should continue TM. There is not enough eschatology here anymore. Might liven up the forum.

Is he the anti-Christ or the Savior Reborne?

Neither.

Here's a helpful tip to narrow that down if you're ever wondering about someone like Dave K in the future. The saviour is not coming back as half human.

King James Version (KJV) wrote:Matthew 24

26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.

Everyone will know he's back.

AAAAnyway....back to thread.

I read 2-5 books a week (40+ years now), mostly sci-fi, fantasy. I use Kindle Unlimited as for $9 a month I get an assload of free books and I love finding new indie authors.

Happy to recommend all day long

Most recently, this series is my fave; great action, character development, fun, not overwritten. Read the first 2 in the series in 2 days....third comes out tomorrow.....pant pant pant

Shockwave (Star Kingdom Book 1) Kindle Edition

Heres the blurb:

What if being a hero was encoded in your genes?

And nobody told you?

Casmir Dabrowski would laugh if someone asked him that. After all, he had to build a robot to protect himself from bullies when he was in school.

Fortunately, life is a little better these days. He’s an accomplished robotics engineer, a respected professor, and he almost never gets picked on in the lunchroom. But he’s positive heroics are for other people.

Until robot assassins stride onto campus and try to kill him.

Forced to flee the work he loves and the only home he’s ever known, Casmir catches the first ship into space, where he hopes to buy time to figure out who wants him dead and why. If he can’t, he’ll never be able to return home.

But he soon finds himself entangled with bounty hunters, mercenaries, and pirates, including the most feared criminal in the Star Kingdom: Captain Tenebris Rache.

Rache could snap his spine with one cybernetically enhanced finger, but he may be the only person with the answer Casmir desperately needs:

What in his genes is worth killing for?

Here's an interesting one, talking of "end times". It's officially a Young Adult, but don't let that put you off, it's engrossing.

Armageddon Summer by Jane Yolen and Bruce Coville - it's about two teens who, partly against their will, end up with a cult which believes it knows when the end of the world will happen, and retreat to what they believe will be the only place in the world not blotted out by God's fire.

Hah- Journal of the Plague Year has been on my list so long that I just forgot that it existed. Thanks for putting it back on my radar!

Fiction, you say. I suppose it would be poor sport to recommend my own.

Besides they are crap, if I do say so myself. Except for the Blue Booted Bobbies trilogy, which is mediocre.

I suppose I have to make some recommendations ...
on the graphic side of novels (more of the comic graphics)
You have the Elf Quest series ...

And the Order of the Stick ...
