California is now considering FORCED DRUG REHABILITATION for "mentally ill" people... --> FORCED..

entailing that if they consider you "mentally ill" & you took some drugs.. then they take you out of society and restrain you in a facility & FORCE you to take stuff like Methadone.. until they consider you "cured".....

Every state has some level of forced drug rehab.... it’s called prison.

Not saying everyone in prison is on drugs, nor am I saying all prisoners are mentally ill.

I am saying if someone’s behavior is so out-of-the-norm and/or harmful to others in society there’s always been some mechanism whereby the gov’t can take your liberty and control the you’re living situation and limit your access to drugs.

How is this materially different?

prison is for criminals who commit crimes.. it's the form of punishment we have decided upon as a society to exert upon someone.

mental illness is not a crime. there should not be a "punishment ' exerted upon those people..

but of course you 100% understand this concept.. you have already stated your only intention when commenting on forum posts to be the contrarian & engage in an argument...

Never said it was a crime.

You again fail at logic and reality.

A person who has a mental illness who never does anything ‘bad’ will never be forced by the gov’t into rehab because they will never fall into the gov’t radar. The only time the gov’t will get involved is when said person does something that is either criminal or otherwise impedes on someone else’s rights. Basically when the individual commits a crime, but can’t be convicted due to his/her mental illness.

So yeah... really not different.

This is about saving money. The psych ward is very expensive. Prison/jail is also expensive

I like the idea of sending people to rehab, treating them as patients as the good lord intended, rather than criminals

What's wrong with rehab over a psych ward or jail, both institutions which people can't leave

At least rehab is free-ish and has MUCH better food

taking drugs is not illegal..
so what your saying is:
1- anyone with a 'mental illness' is crazy..
because according to NAMI OF California.. these are Mental Illnesses: Autism, ADHD, Asperger's, Anorexia, Bulimia, OCD, PTSD, Tourette's,

any of these people in your mind are 'crazy' & if they do drugs.. they should be forcefully taken out of society & 'cured' of their drug addiction...

what happens if say a state deems Gender Identity a Mental Disorder ( because it is listed as one .. just depends on which science you prefer). . ? is it then ok to call them 'crazy' and take them out of society if they use drugs & 'cure' them...?
