Quit being a Masshole. It must be Hollywood where every team/horse/car/athlete wins the event/race/game/cup/trophy.

I just realized, Toronto wouldn’t qualify as the greatest sports city in the “USA”.

... but given they do compete in overlapping sports leagues, perhaps it should be greatest sports city in “North America”.

You can throw Toronto out there... but they’re on nobody else’s list.

The Bleacher report gave the title to Boston... of course... and that was in 2011!

Our case is only stronger now.

I like that you were ready to entertain some sort of debate for twenty minutes.

Wot?

I’m just presenting evidence for Boston... though Beantown is a contender for sure.

Seriously though, if you think you can make a case for Toronto go for it.

No one’s writing in here because everyone knows, the answer is obvious.

If we limit it to the National Sport of Canada only... i.e. Hockey... Toronto still doesn’t win.
That title probably has to go to Montreal. No?

My sports town nomination is Pittsburgh.

Penguins
In 52 years, the Penguins have won the Cup 5 times (10% of the time.) Along the way they picked up 6 Conference titles and 8 Division titles. Your Bruins have 6 Cups, but they needed 94 seasons to gather them (6% of seasons resulted in a Cup.) Of course, nobody has a record comparable to the legendary Montreal Canadiens, with 23 cups in 99 seasons, but Montreal isn't a contender in any other sport so it can't be considered for this list. The Penguins have an overall won-lost record of 1935-1805 games and a postseason won-lost record of 200-165.

There are two Penguins -- Lemieux and Crosby -- that feature on most lists of the Top 10 hockey players of all time.

Pirates
The Pirates have had some spectacularly bad decades, but they've also had some good ones. Despite having some of the worst losing streaks in baseball history, the Pirates have managed an overall won-lost ratio of 10240-10016. The fact that they've managed an overall positive won-lost ratio despite their legendary losing streaks shows you just how good their good years were. The Pirates have made the playoffs 15 times, won the Pennant 9 times, and the World Series 5 times. This includes the legendary 1960 Series when the Pirates defeated the Yankees during the Roger Maris era, in the 9th inning of the 7th game.

The Pirates have the best-looking uniform in baseball. Legendary Pirates include Willie Stargell, Roberto Clemente, and Bobby Bonilla. Three Rivers Stadium was an architectural marvel, ahead of its time.

Steelers
Pittsburgh is tied with the New England Patriots for the most Super Bowl titles (6), and has both played in (16) and hosted more conference championship games (11) than any other NFL team. The Steelers have won 8 AFC championships, tied with the Denver Broncos, but behind the Patriots' record 11 AFC championships. Their overall won-lost record is 628-558.

Some of the most amazing playmakers in football have been Steelers -- Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, and the amazing Lynn Swann.

Pittsburgh might make the top five.

If we want to start naming names, I have four for you...

Ted Williams
Bobby Orr
Larry Bird
Tom Brady

That’s not enough?

Top Ten Baseball players... count Cy Young and Ted Williams, two Red Sox.

Babe Ruth also played for the Sox for part of career.
Honorable Mention to Roger Clemens... pre-juice days when he was pitching for the Sox.
—-

Top Ten Basketball players.... count Larry Bird, Bill Russell, and Bob Cousy.

The starting line-up in the Celtics hay day is considered the greatest starting lineup of all time...
Robert Parish, Kevin McHale, Larry Bird, Dennis Johnson, and Danny Ainge!
—-

Top Ten Hockey players... count Bobby Orr.

Honorable mention to Ray Borque, and Eddie Shore (“Old Tyme Hockey”), and Phil Esposito.
—-

Top Ten Football players...

Well obviously you got the GOAT, Tom Brady.

Honorable mentions to John Hannah.

Oh and since kickers are never on Top Ten lists.... we need to note probably two best kickers ever, Adam Vinatieri and Stephen Gostkowski.
Two of the most clutch kickers to ever put a foot on a football. :)
——

Should we start talking about coaches, managers, and owners?

Duk... how come you didn’t mention the Pittsburgh Condors or the Steel City Yellow Jackets?

Pittsburgh does a good job with the teams they have, but upon further reflection I don’t think they’d make Top Five.
They’re a second rate city that can’t even field an NBA franchise!

Bleacher agrees... they rank Pittsburgh at 8.
