It's fun. Just don't get too wrapped up in its intellectual pretensions. It is really good entertainment. It is not a brilliant philosophical puzzle as it pretends to be.

I agree with Duk on this movie. I was disappointed, thinking it was going to offer MORE. It did not impress me on many levels.

Star Wars, Star Trek, and the LOTR are much better movies and stories.

In this forum game thread, voting by dozens of CC posters over the space of 1-2 years has determined that Star Wars is by far the worst fiction franchise out there, while Matrix is one of the best.

Wow, had to watch it twice. There is a lot to like. Characters are awesome. Great lines. Visual eye candy.

Don't reload, just pullout anther gun. Love it!

Really like the Oracle lady. Interesting how Agent Smith was just as tired of the war as the good guys.

The only thing I don't like about the movie is the black pleather trench coats.

The movie did not work for me on more than the entertainment level. I did not get anything out of the attempt to be a puzzle or be at a philosophical level. I either missed those points or those points were not well-developed.

Speaking of acids...Science has found the strongest acid naturally occurring in the universe. Previously it was only known in lab tests.

Duk has this right- it's a fun little action movie. Just a shame that they never made a sequel.

You're right about Duk; you are wrong about sequel.

There was no sequel to The Matrix. Let's be very clear about that.

you are wrong, Symm:

The Matrix is a science fiction action media franchise created by The Wachowskis, about a group of heroes who fight a desperate war against machine overlords that have enslaved humanity in an extremely sophisticated virtual reality system. The series is most notable for its use of slow motion, which revolutionized action films to come. The series began with the feature film The Matrix (1999), and continued with two sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions (both 2003), all written and directed by The Wachowskis and produced by Joel Silver.

As usual, Symm, when you are proven WRONG, you fail to admit it. Therefore it is pointless to discuss things with you. I had hope that you, for one, could discuss or even debate topics honestly and intellectually. You prove yourself neither; you are a troll.

Thanks agane JP. Perhaps you should try to understand other people once in a while though.

I'll try to explain it in the language of autistics:

Re: The Matrix

by jusplay4fun
Understand? What do I not understand?

1) Symmetry is a troll; there is little doubt about it. Many on CC have pointed this out to me.

2) Symmetry is wrong and refuses to acknowledge it. He has done this before and others have complained to me about this proclivity of his.

3) Matrix had NOT one, but 2 sequels.

4) Some people are intelligent; some are not. Some folks on CC can intelligently discuss issues with an open mind. Others have only one narrow view of life: their own.

5) Many people in the world can treat others with respect and dignity; several individuals in the Forum discussion on CC and in Global Chat (and others means of CC communication) cannot be respectful of the views of others. The anonymity that the internet offers gives some the means to act in a mean, disrespectful, and hateful manner. A few on here communicate with vitriol. Others try sarcasm but with a very negative and facetious slant.

6) Some on CC act as a bully by badgering and hectoring others they perceive as weak.

So, again. what am I missing, here, DY, relevant to the discussion in this thread about the movie Matrix?

People say that the Matrix doesn't have sequels not because they say they don't exist, but because they refuse to acknowledge them. It's a joke that goes older than the xkcd comic. I don't think referring to an old joke is the same thing as "being wrong".

The logic follows as such:
if movies 2 and 3 are real, then I hate the Matrix
However, I love the Matrix,
therefore Movies 2 and 3 aren't real

This falls into the category of "fanon" studies (a variant of canon studies).

Similar to how Martin Luther refused to acknowledge the epistle of James; or similar to how I completely reject the official canon of Legend of Zelda and view Hiroshima and Nagasaki as a pre-emptive strike against the Japanese for making such a bullshit timeline that not only didn't solve the problems of the fan-timelines but actually made added more problems.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_(fiction)

The reason I call you an autistic is because of your total inability to comprehend even basic human interactions. Did you honestly think that Symmetry didn't know there were 2 sequels? In your first post it looked like you were trying to educate him.
Then you called him a troll... so you thought he posted that deliberately to trigger you? Why did it work?
If you think the phrase is vitriolic, I won't use it anymore... I just don't know how else to describe you.

I'm not sure I want to help here but I guess it would be wrong not to.

He was trying to make a joke partially referring to the comic strip. A lot of people loved the original but hate the sequels so badly they prefer to deny any exist because they are not fit to be included as part of the series.

After he posted the comic. You seem too focused on the bulk of his past work to even consider this could be a fun exchange. You are predominately correct but in this case, he was not merely being a prick to you he was trying to make a fun little light joke.

I can't fault you for being unable to let it happen, he has certainly earned that. If you can't seperate him from Bern, I can look the other way so to speak and allow you that. Let me know.

The joke is also referring to the movie itself in that, everything is a simulation, so you can create the sequels by imagining them (admitting they exist) or choose that they don't actually exist. Kind of like, "There is no spoon."

Thanks for clarifying the matters, 2dimes.

Symmetry has failed to acknowledge his error on more than one occasion. He is a troll. That is my main point and the focus of my reply. If he wants to offer a "cute" and facetious reply, so be it. He is still a troll and fails to admit any error.

Cute comics by Symm does not change his spots.

I admit that I am ignorant of both his subtle jokes with regards to the Matrix, but I am not worried about not knowing all jokes about modern pop culture. Most current pop culture is rather worthless, if you let me express my opinion. I have students who find hilarious many jokes about memes and other aspects of popular culture. I find the few I asked about to be largely inane and banal; rather pedestrian, too.

Symmetry and fake burn are both trolls. Symm has some intelligence, at least.

Yeah, fair enough. Bern is just better at trolling.
