The EU oppresses vegans and sustainable food

The EU continuing to legislate against the biggest challenges society faces in 2019:

Veggie burgers are for the chop, a Brussels committee has decreed, to be replaced by the less palatable-sounding “veggie discs”.

And it won’t be just bean or mushroom burgers condemned to the food bin of history. Vegan sausages, tofu steaks and soya escalopes could all be approaching their ultimate best-before date, after a vote in the European parliament on revisions to a food-labelling regulation.

In a move that some MEPs suspect bears the fingerprints of the meat industry, the parliament’s agriculture committee this week approved a ban on producers of vegetarian food using nomenclature usually deployed to describe meat.

The decision to protect meat-related terms and names “exclusively for edible parts of the animals” was firmly opposed by NGOs such as Greenpeace and Birdlife who insisted it presented a blow against sustainable food.

What do you want Mrs? Are we going to start calling soy beans.... filet mignon?

It's all about truth in advertising.

"Vegan cheese" is actually one of the most detestable products ever sold in any market.

They make epileptic child slaves look good.

Exactly. They should be labelled as they are... factory-processed, chemically-enhanced soy.

Bullshit. If you want to be a purist, then the "burger" made with chicken or turkey is as invalid as the burger made from tofu.
The same argument goes for chicken and turkey sausage.
In no situation have I ever seen a vegetarian / vegan product trying to pretend that it is not.

I prefer to defer to his Royal Highness (the man who, frankly, is more creepy than Biden) the Burger King ...

The Burger King has spoken.

No, I think the whole point of European food purity laws is in response to the evils of American greed.

When you consider that the most popular cheese in America in Mozzarella, and yet Mozzarella cheese is actually illegal in America, you can see that clearly the Americans call food whatever the hell they want and therefore any American company is not welcome at the table.

However, it also misses the greater point that over-processed (read: American) products like veggie meats (or Chicken McNuggets) are NOT food.

Let's put it out there plain and simple. Mrswdk enjoys veggie-burgers for their estrogenic effects.

Chicken McNuggets are "food" (180 calories, 11g total fat, 11g carbs, 10g total protein) but only in the dictionary definition of the word.

To compare a McNugget to a Vegie Burger is a crime of comparison. They are no where even close to being the same.

Chicken nuggets are for kids, and adults who are slightly disappointed that they can't get a toy with their order.
