In the first three months of 2019, per capita firearms fatalities in New Zealand are higher than in the US and yet NZ has among the world's tightest gun control.

Actually, the gunman was Australian.

Aukland is the only place I can recall that put up a sign just as you exit the commuter train station asking you not to get drunk and run amok downtown.
They should have added, "This isn't Bourbon Street."
I thought their tagging was too pointy too.

WTF is wrong with people. Damn.
New Zealand actually vets each person individually (by the cops). This dude must not be a legal weapon owner. So sad.

You take a tiny sample period incorporating one terrible event (carried out by an Australian citizen) and try and make a political point on gun control....sad

Not a NZer and an extreme right psychopath. You obviously have zero empathy and should STFU.

It's actually a good question, albeit trolling. What will NZ do to prevent further attacks?

Show some respect.
If Aussies and kiwis came out the day after the 9/11 attacks with this sort of insensitive rubbish would that be ok with you lot?

Sorry but the reaction in NZ has been so alien it's hard for me to comprehend. They had a memorial in which they performed that Haka thing which, through sheer repetition, they've already established to the outside world is their football cheerleading dance routine (yes I know it used to be something sacred and noble at one time but now it's the pre match entertainment that follows the best dressed fan contest).
It would be like, after 9/11, if the Dallas Cowboy dance team showed up at the Washington National Cathedral and did a high kick routine set to Eye of the Tiger.
Then you have every NZ er interviewed on the news sounding like they're reading a Tourism NZ brochure. They all spend five seconds talking about what they saw followed by five minutes talking about how great NZ is.
Finally you have the NZ government responding to the whole thing by trying to terrorize their own population by asking ISPs to hand over user data on anyone posting the "manifesto."
Jamaica Arbuckle or whatever her name is seems to want everyone to believe she's the chief victim by virtue of proximity and title as she prances around dressed like a cross between Evita and Benzair Bhutto with a gaggle of photographers behind her, essentially using the attack to launch her campaign for UN Secretary-General. Fifty individuals were attacked, not the NZ government or anyone carrying a NZ passport. Jamaica's message, though, is that all New Zealanders should feel free to step up and grab a slice of the victimhood cake and we all have to entertain this narcissism.

I have to say I don't quite understand performing the haka as a tribute. As far as I'm aware the haka are all war dances (I know the words to the Samoan one are all about how you're about to f*ck up the people you're dancing in front of).

Politics in America is now just another TV show competing with
Jersey Shore and
Dr Phil to see who can get the highest ratings but politicians in some other countries do actually see their jobs as being to deliver a good life for the people of the country they're in charge of.

The job of a politician in any functioning democracy is to get re-elected no different than the job of a garbageman is to pick up the garbage so he will keep getting a paycheck, not because he is called by the cosmos to keep alleys clear of refuse.
Politicians who think they're channelling the voice of God on a sacred quest to improve the lot of the little people are merely tolerating democracy, not practicing it.

Good thing Russia has Putin who's not interested in getting re-elected....he just throws his opponents in jail. Brilliant!

Well then I don't know what you were talking about Jersey Shore earlier. Politicians are
are supposed to be toymakers, not shepherds.
In any case, Jamaica's biggest accomplishment until now seems to have been getting knocked up by random guys. I'm sure she sees this as a big opportunity to polish her CV.
