When I get time, I'll expand on this, but the Mrs was named rookie of the year by the local Soroptimists mainly for her engagement in a charity project in Ghana, and for getting them to sign up for it.

I'll have to run this by the mods for potential multis of the jonesthecurl account, obviously, but for the meantime, it sounds like the Mrs account should not be banned.

Seriously though- congrats, and also, what's a soroptimist? Like an optimist, but for peace?

It's a womens organisation - I think the name is a contraction of "Sorority" and "Optimist". It's international, the Mrs found out about it from a friend in Hampshire.
The project is to work with young girls from poorer families in Ghana - about 1 in 5 drop out of school around the time of puberty, partly because of lack of access to sanitary facilities.
The project is to make and distribute reusable washable sanitary pads so the girls can stay in school.
Pilot programme is helping out about a thousand girls.

Reusable sanitary pads???? They had them for a couple of hundred years. We call them cotton rags.

Here in the West we make everything disposable to feed our landfills and/or incinerate them to fertilize our skies with carbon dioxide.
