Erm i would rather somebody that actually knows about the game rather than watch the open tournaments 4 times a year, but hey anyone will do.
Im a competent club level player that is usually quite good, generally play agressive all court/serve approach shot volleyer. Just played a club semi final and lost. Purely because i started playing grannys tennis. How to overcome this.
P.S i am also a coach so do not usually need this kind of basic help.
Why dont i go to a tennis forum, i dont want to get addicted to any other site or forum. I would be interested to know how many players there are in CC

I've played tennis 4 years, I watch professional tennis, I have a hardass coach that occassionally knows more about tennis than people that are better than him
there are 3 more people I know that play, slash1890 (not sure exactly what that number is) plays, DominationNation has been playing 5 years (although he recently left CC) and debra79 has been playing for like 20 years or something...

*Raises Hand* 6 Years.
I played football (soccer) longer (12 Years and going still) but I love both sports.
Tennis is 4th, working on third on my all time favorite sports list.

It is very close to it.
I know I am not Ronaldinho, but football means so much to me, it is just I also play other sports as well.
*By the way Ronaldinho, I am more of a Dado Prso fan, I hope that does not make me any less of a footballer then you.
I am also a Barry Ferguson fan, I guess that is because I am a Gers fans.

I've played tennis since I was 4 years old and I'm now 28. I taught myself how to play and started playing in seniors when I was 11 or 12 - can't remember which, old age is creeping in
I've never been a professional coach, but in Primary School I did teach my classmates how to play.
I generally prefer to play from the baseline, don't usually come to the net too often, though I am a pretty good volleyer. I also prefer playing doubles to singles and I pretty much run down every ball possible.
Oh, and I never watch the tennis on the television unless it's the Aussie Open, purely 'cause I'm an Aussie

Can't say I really like any of the Aussie players on the circuit at the moment, though. Long live Roger Federer

oh so now we're talking strategy? serving and volleying are my strengths, so I often serve hard, and run up to the net, even in singles.... and i do like singles better than doubles, even though I've played doubles more often and am probably better at the latter. My baseline groundstrokes are what's killing me, I used to use all arm-strength for maximum topspin but my coach and I have recently been reworking my strokes to be more "normal"

I thought that was generally what the whole idea of this thread was all about.
My shots aren't very powerful as I damaged the ligaments in my shoulder when I was younger (trying to go for a smash my shoulder popped out of its socket and it's never been the same since), but I've lost no greater than 10% of my entire service games purely 'cause I have some natural left handed wacky spin happening

that sucks about your shoulder, now that I'm on vacation I've been playing a lot of golf with my grandpa, and on every drive I swing real hard, and sometimes I feel something in my left shoulder pop or snap. Luckily I'm right handed so if I ever hurt it I will still be able to serve well in tennis

I can still play right handed - not that I need to - but I'm obviously no where near as good playing that way.
Even now, if I roll over in bed or on the couch or whatever, after having been lying on my left side, my shoulder pops out and back in straight away. Bloody annoying, but I'm not going to have surgery on it when there's a good chance that surgery won't fix the problem.
I'd like to go to a driving range one day. One of those activities that I'm always saying I'm going to do, and never end up getting around to.

can you stretch your shoulder and if so have you been stretching it regularly since you hurt it?

if you are left handed and hurt your left shoulder, then golf would be perfect since it uses the left shoulder for only control and the right shoulder for the main power

Yeah I can stretch it, it doesn't hurt, but stretching exercises won't help repair the damage. Just pops in and out of its socket from time to time and has effected my power, not my reach.
I don't know anything about golf, or even which hand is the lead hand, or whatever you call it, on the club

From memory when I have bashed a golf ball around in the spare paddock, I think my left hand was closest to the top of the club. Is that the left handed way of holding a golf club? I only ask because I'm not a "true" left-hander in every sense of the word, as I bat in cricket and baseball like a right hander, and I can bowl (ten pin or lawn) with both hands and kick or dribble a ball with both feet comfortably.

well do you know the golfer's grip? I'm righty so my left hand is on top, and its index finger interlocks with my right pinky.
now I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure that for lefties it is the exact same only reversed, so the right is closest to the edge at the top, with right index interlocking with left pinky.

Yeah I hold the club like a right hander then

It's only because in Primary School the Phys Ed teacher only showed us how to play cricket like a right hander, so anything involving using a club or a bat or racquet - whatever - I tend to do like a righty.

oh then...yeah for righties you use your left shoulder in power... meaning that you should be careful

Good god, I really do know nothing about golf. lol. When I picture swinging the club in my mind, I would have thought the power came from the bottom hand/right arm.

yeah thats what it looks like, because in tennis on my backhand I feel that I use my bad arm (left) more in power and my good arm (right) for control, and I thought that transfered over to golf, until my left shoulder starting hurting

But the body positions and the swinging motions are totally different in tennis compared with golf, aren't they?
