I voted for all three.

Vallerian - Who would have thought a French story could be so good? I'm both happy and sad it won't get a sequel. Happy because they can't ruin it, but sad because we won't get another one.

Hunger Games - The anthem to the series, by Arcade Fire, may be one of Canada's greatest contributions to world music. And the love story between Katniss and Peeta is one of the greatest in cinematic history. The one thing I wasn't quite as fond of was the subtle feminist line they were pushing, but everything else made up for it.

Snowpiercer - I didn't see this in the theater unfortunately. But, it was a good thing, because after I started watching it I liked it so much I could only watch it in small bits before stepping away because I would get too excited!

Dude. Valeria is really the only choice. Hated snowblower. 1 hunger games was enough for all time.

Did you like Jupiter Ascending? Ready Player One? Infinity Wars?

Do you count zombie movies as scifi? If you do, Train to Busan beats Snowpiercer.

Oh I totally forgot about Train to Busan. That was good. IDK if it counts as sci fi or not. If Symmetry says it does I'll add it to my list, but it won't replace Snowpiercer.

Not seen that one, but it's on my list. Glad you watched Snowpiercer. That movie ticks a lot of boxes for me- clever idea, great cast, tiny bit nuts, great action, fun watch.

Temporarily I won't count Train to Busan as Sci-Fi, but again I haven't seen it yet. It looks like a pure zombie movie, which I used to class as just horror, but I now think is it's own class of movie.

I may have over thunk.

Hunger Games- I went in thinking it was gonna be a tween thing like Twilight. Actually the first movie was really good. Actually, very good. I didn't think much of the sequels, to be honest.

Valerian- I kinda got bored. That's rare for me with sci-fi, especially as I like Luc Besson as a director. I'm not sure what he was trying to do, but it made me want to go back and watch Leon for a good lead actor, or even the Fifth Element for him and fun sci-fi.

They should have collapsed the third and fourth films into a single movie.

Indeed, but then they would have made less money. It's not like they were trying to make good movies out of the split.

I think about 90% of the Avatar sequel ended up in Alita- Battle Angel.

Oh god, I'm still pissed on how they screwed up 'Ready player one'. I loved the book. The book was awesome, but the movie was nothing like the book.
Hunger games is awesome.

Train to Busan is great. Far better than World War Z in terms of story telling. Also planning on watching the new korean netflix series called Kingdom. It's more fantasy than sci-fi though.

Of course the book was better. That's always the case. Learned long ago to disassociate the movie from the book  It was worth watching.

I really liked Jupiter Ascending.

Still, my fave fairly recent (subjectively speaking) flicks are probly Battle Los Angeles and Battleship. Can watch them both again and again.

Edit - just looked up Alita...damn, that looks awesome. Right up my alley. Comes out next week.....gonna go see it! Thanks for the heads up Symmi. :D

Sci-fi wise, I really liked Gravity, Interstellar, Okja, and a few series that stand out- Altered Carbon on Netflix, for example. Might not fit in the time frame, but then neither does Snowpiercer,

The latest two planet of the apes movies fit in this time frame. Hated the original series, disliked the first "reimagining", have been blown away by the later ones.
