Trump has delivered on yet another campaign pledge and put a bullet through the head of NAFTA this morning. The new agreement, once approved by Congress, will be called the "United States-Mexico Trade Agreement" and will involve the United States and Mexico. It will take effect within 90 days. Canada can join at a later time if it chooses.

Among the highlights:

1. To qualify for tariff exemptions, 75% of all new auto production in the U.S. and Mexico must be done from parts produced in the U.S. and Mexico
WIN FOR MEXICO: This will shift some auto parts manufacturing from China to Mexico.
WIN FOR USA: Another knife in the throat of China.

2. To qualify for tariff exemptions, 40% of all new auto production in the U.S. and Mexico must be done by workers earning at least $16/hour
WIN FOR MEXICO: Workers at existing production facilities in Mexico may see pay raises.
WIN FOR USA: Future auto production facilities will be placed in the United States.

3. The deal expires after 16 years unless renewed
WIN FOR MEXICO: Mexico is not chained to an agreement if conditions on the ground change
WIN FOR USA: The USA is not chained to an agreement if conditions on the ground change

When the news broke today ...

The peso rallied ... U.S. stocks rose, with the S&P 500 Index closing just short of 2,900 and the Nasdaq Composite Index topping 8,000 for the first time.

Once again, Trump delivers prosperity to all 81 states.

It was also a win for the Canadian milk mafia, who continue to totally destroy the Canadian economy while sucking the top.

" What has the milk mafia ever done for us?"
" The milk bag?"
" Well, of course, the milk bag. But besides the milk bag, what has the milk mafia ever done for us?"

I feel bad for Canada. Almost every other country in the world gets a failed agreement with Trump, but not the Canadians?

President Trump has ordered concessions from Canada to accept imports of dairy products from the Red Wall - Wisconsin and Pennsylvania and Michigan. The penalty for non-compliance is too much to bear and Trudeau will roll over. This is another WIN-WIN - Canadians get high-quality, low-price American dairy in place of high-cost Canadian dairy; meanwhile, Americans have a better chance of seeing Trump elected to a second term once the loyalty of the Red Wall is assured.

Donald Trump’s surprise trade deal with Mexico, announced Monday, certainly has the feel of a crisis. And if being frozen out of the trilateral negotiation wasn’t bad enough, the American president is now threatening to “tariff” the U.S.-Canada auto trade, a move that would place a giant stick in the spokes of the Canadian economy.

I don't even want American cheese to be honest. They don't even have the good European cheeses that are made with raw milk. For example, mozzarrella, the most popular cheese in America, is also illegal in America.

On my recent UK visit I was reminded how crap US cheddar is. seriously, I'd forgotten what decent cheddar tastes like.

No kidding. Wait until the Anercan corporations wipe out Canadian dairy farms.

Doom Yoshi will lament remembering the old days when there was a bit of nearly good cheddar available.

It probably won't even be cheaper to buy. Just to produce once Tyson takes over, it will be just like Brawndo.

I am surprised you can't find British imports there. They must have that, "We won't pay the cheese tax!" Attitude about it or something. I would have thought Napa valley would have better stuff. That must just be avocados.

I think they have Wegmans super markets where you live. They actually have a decent white cheddar (I think it's Adams or something like that). That being typed, I've never been to the UK and never had their cheddar cheese.

I never got particularly good cheese in England. They might have thought I was American and gave me the lame stuff though.

Even a supermarket's own brand is noticeably better than you tend to get here, and if you go to a proper cheese shop you can get wondrous stuff. If you're overcome by a desire for some cheesy comestibles.

From the Napa Valley Register:

You will see British imports (mainly cheddars) here in the Napa Valley, though it is true not all as some really are banned. One thing that isn't really talked about in the law is that if you are a very small cheese producer and only sell locally you are actually exempted from some of the pasteurization laws. It depends on your locality etc, but yes you can get some excellent local cheese in Napa that is made from Raw milk and can't be sold all over the country... and there are also illegal cheese rings here for the raw imports, but they would never go to retail settings. Generally only the chefs like Thomas Keller get access. The other cool thing you see here alot that is tech illegal is abalone!

Just curtail your Walpoling activities.

Thank you for that research. It is important for me to know. It makes sense to have that exemption since the only reason the "no unpasteurized cheese" law is in effect is because most American cheese is factory produced, and one bad batch of milk can ruin an entire factory. In Europe, where most cheese continues to be "small batch", the law doesn't make any sense at all. Cheese factories are definitely in my bottom 10.

hmm, perhaps it's time to consider joining a "cheese of the month" club, then. i received a 1 year membership as a gift & liked it so much, i renewed the next year - but 1/2 way through, they stopped getting stuff from overseas, so it kind of sucked after that... :(

I have considered it, as well as a licorice-of-the-month club, but it's too much money.

yeah, it was a bit pricey - couldn't justify it after they were only sending me stuff from NA. i think that decision put them out of business. i think...
