Islamaphobia

I notice a few people using this word around here and on mainstream media.

Phobia means to have an irrational fear. Is it irrational to fear Islam? Or is this a way to stop any debate or scrutiny of Islam?

I worked with possibly a majority of Muslims a few years ago. They were almost all ok, some I even hung out with outside of work.

The religion seems to have at least four layers, then it is much further complicated by being divided into regions and sects. Some of which violently oppose other adherents of the faith.

Anyone picking a simple side, such as, "Islam is bad. They're gonna get you." Or "Islam is the religion of peace." Must be unable to pay attention or see reality. It's way too complicated to just lump in to a predictable single dimensional concept.

As for someone being phobic of it. I'm sure there are people that are. I have never knowingly met one. I'm not certain it is completely irrational but perhaps could be expanded to such a point.

I think the word like many others gets thrown around so much it's pretty pointless to use it.

I have definately worked with one person that was Muslim and might have been christianophobic or westernophobic. If not he certainly displayed a minor persicution complex. He was the only Muslim there and not getting along with the foreman on the project. The foreman was terrible though so that complicated things.

At Walmart in the soup isle I was focus on finding a certain one and got tunnel vision. When I looked to my left next to me was a full berka with a slit at eye level. She was motionless. Looked like the Emperors red guards in Return of the Jedi. I froze thinking this could be a bomber!

She wasn't...but the fear I felt was real.

I wasn't really gonna comment in this thread, but your post is pretty much proof that Islamophobia is real. This sure seem like irrational fear to me....Unless I missed the news story about the walmart soup isle terroist bombing plot that was foiled by hitred.

Lmao, did you epect me to tackle her? Thankfully rational thought took over.

It used to be more common to have news outlets report suicidal bombings at weddings, voting booths or just people lined up to buy food. Thankfully maybe this has declined.

I feel like this suggestion might help jonesthecurl as well.

Jones might have been naked when that alleged inside the incident occurred.

Awesome red, as far as I am aware that's the closest I have got to actual Islamaphobia. If you consider I was in Houston a few weeks ago I was even closer to him. Good times.

There might be someone in my neighborhood but I'm not aware of it.

I sort of want to vote for the first option, especially after HR's story about wetting himself in the canned goods section of a Walmart, but the spelling error in the thread title really annoys me.
