If I Ever Wrote a Book...

...it would be called Lost at Sea: The Stories Behind the Gravestones

There is nothing more haunting and mysterious than a gravestone that reads LOST AT SEA. All you get is a name, age and year. Just like the family, no answers.

This book would try to reveal more backstory. Name of the ship, circumstances and miss opportunities of a life lost.

If this book already exists I'd make my own version.

1863 is right in the middle of the American Civil War. Same year as Gettysburg, iiirc. He's the right age to have served.

Aye, a naval historian could probably identify the type of ship too. That's not a careless piece of stone-crafting.
