When singing the lyrics of a rap song that contains the word "nigga" (I will censor if deemed necessary mods) when, if ever, is it ok for a non-black person to say the aforementioned word?

Basically if I'm around any person of color I won't do it, unless I already know they don't care. Otherwise, I'll happily do it. Shit, I get into it too. Like it's liberating to be able to rap it so freely.

i dunno if yall are youngish (im 38 so im oldish). Where I grew up, Raleigh NC, saying it wasn't considered that big of a deal, honestly you looked kinna stupid saying it BECAUSE it wasn't that big of a deal, so you were perceived as trying to draw attention to yourself. Nowadays I sometimes find myself walking around in my house with no pants on and say it over and over as quickly as possible while I am vacuuming. It is a fun word to say.

Wait, is this thread just an attempt to circumvent the sticky?

ive had this convo with quite a few friends of different ethnicity's and if youre just singing along to a song its usually not a big deal (not always the case) if your just casually using the world, then its more of an issuse, but i think part of it all is based on where you live and how its viewed as a word?

I have karaoked a song containing the word Voldemort to a room of people including 2-3 black guys and it went over fine, but they were all friends. I wouldn't have karaoked it in a bar full of strangers.

Personally I think if it's the word that's in the lyrics then it's never a problem, but some people are sensitive snowflakes and need to be treated with a bit of caution.

Impersonating black people is never problematic?

Did you really think that the problem with that was solely about makeup?

When I was about 11 I remember visiting a drift mine. Now, well after slavery was abolished in USA, Britain still allowed children as young as 7 to work in mines. My mother wouldn't have dreamed about going to my school and moaning like a selfish arrogant imbecile because it's history. The conditions were horrible and made me think I couldn't have coped with such a life. I presume the school involved in the video here was trying to learn these children about their history and how lucky they are today. How wicked of them eh?

Did they make you actually mine coal?

If not, I think you may well have spectacularly missed the point again.
