For acoustic I'm partial to Martin.
I have an '86 Kramer (a real USA, not Japanese made) with Seymour Duncan pickups thats perfect if you're looking for that heavy metal sound.

Overall I'd have to say a Les Paul. Can't go wrong with that one.

Takamine (though I sadly only have a Simon & Patrick, not that its a bad guitar but a decent Takamine just sounds soooo sweet)

I currently have a 1972 Takamine 12 string, a classical 6 string Norman, and a 6 string Cort.....(you have to take what you can get when you're left handed)....but my favorite guitar that I ever had was my 1985 Larrivee Eagle Model that John Claude Larrivee himself made for me.....it was the first left handed one he'd ever made, and I loved it. Lost it to "bad times" 6 yrs ago.

It was actually given to me (for free!) in '94. About two years later I swapped out the old pickups for the Seymours, cleaned & lubed the Floyd Rose tremolo, and put in new wiring. A bit of windex on the body (candy apple red), and it was a brand new guitar.

I have to agree with the Takimine posts as well. Awesome guitar.
Also, I have a couple of friends in a Genesis cover band (original Gabriel Genesis). The guitarist has a white double neck Gibson SG, and the bass player has a double neck (12-string/bass) Rickenbacker that makes me drool......

I currently only own an accoustic and its an Ovation. I've owned a Fender electric (first guitar), BC Rich Virgin (loved that guitar) and a Kramer 7 string.

Stick your wood in that mankey whore, she stinks like cheap cider and out of date tobaco. You might wanna check you aint got craps either. That string probally did come in handy though, you have to tie that bitch up and store her scabby ass in the cupboard. You Sti infested, scabby mum shagging gimp.

Do you like the ovation? Does it have the bowl back?

I only have four strings but they're thicker.

My main unit since I bought it new in '86 is a Hamer chaperal USA hand made. I like it and can't totally justify upgrading or side grading.

I like the Ernie Ball stingrays. They play nice for my hands, sound great and look good. I've had my eye on a 5 string fretless for 6 years, I don't think I'll ever have it. (stupid debt)

I'd like a Fender P-bass but you need to find just the right one.

They're all kind of different, which is good in a way.

My issue is if I had one and broke it or something how do you find another one that's the same. I suppose if the hamer went away I could never replace it either.

I should probably just get the crappyest P-Bass with a good neck I can find and just rework the thing.

Yup. Its an American made 94 I think. Kinda girly lookin but it has a nice action and tone. Its got the built in preamp which is nice. Heres a pic:
