Happy Election Day

Many predicted that there would be a presidential election today. I suggest you drive to your local school and demand to vote in the gymnasium. The kids will love it and you'll get all kinds of government attention. Bring a Ruger for a more authentic experience.

Top election to watch today is the Virginia Governor's election.

After a string of punishing defeats since Trump's coronation, holding the Virginia Governor's Mansion may be the last hope the Democrats have to avoid the complete collapse of their party. A Republican victory, meanwhile, could sweep away any last opposition in Congress to the National Reorganization as pols realize the potency of Brand Trump.

But the consequences of a win by Republican Ed Gillespie, an inveterate Beltway power broker, would have reverberations far beyond Tuesday.

It would signal to Republicans, once wary of Trump’s toxicity, that wielding his brand of right-wing populism is a winning strategy ― even in a state with a popular Democratic governor that Hillary Clinton carried by a 5-percentage-point margin in the 2016 presidential election.

“It will be incredibly demoralizing,” said Yasmin Taeb, a Virginia Democratic National Committee member who has been volunteering for Northam’s campaign.

Rugers are nice, definately one of my favorite brands. I'd rather take them out of town to a nice empty field to kill some biodegradable targets but I'm weird like that.

I am pretty certain Governors don't get to vote in Congress and that lead is not very biodegradable.

When did you become such a Republican shill?

You've always been nasty, but at least you used to agree that the political corruption runs high in both parties. Now you've gone full Phatscotty and lick the toes of every stray elephant in the country. Gillespie wasn't even a Trumpist candidate. He was old-fashioned Republican. When did this new sycophancy take hold in you?

As Trump promised in the Speech of 16 June, the Republican Party is being recreated into a Workers Party. A Nationalist Workers Party, but we'll take what we can get. Now that Dean Heller, Bob Corker, and Jeff Flake have all been purged, with Roger Wicker targeted for purging, and with John McCain on death's door, people like Gillespie - non-Trumpists, but not anti-Trumpists - are basically harmless antiques.

The Republican Party is in the process of being eradicated from the inside out and its carcass reanimated into a Trumpist Party, so to support the GOP is to support what it's about to become, not the the sunset of what it is.

As Trump outlined in the Speech of 16 June, this transformation is the most important step in the National Reorganization Process.

Or, if you were planning to vote for Gillespie, show up tomorrow.

16 June of what year? When I google "Trump's speech of 16 June" I just get links to his 2015 launch speech. I read it in its entirety and it was just the usual bombast and drivel and nothing meaningful. Should I be looking for another year?

Hmm, I seem to remember some other country who had a "workers party" some time ago... I believe it was just as a precursor to another famous party, maybe that is what Saxi is alluding to? Is this his coming out celebration? Just straight up admitting Trump idolizes the Nazi's, and that he wants Trump to become and authoritarian leader of the USA?

The new Republicans would no longer be the party of "business and the privileged," but the protector of a disenfranchised working class. People have been conscious of the defection of working-class voters to the Republican Party for years, but this has always been dismissed as the consequence of skillfull propaganda. It's the What's the Matter With Kansas? creation story, i.e., that the white working class has been hoodwinked into going against its own economic interests thanks to cynical/backward appeals to race, religion and culture.

But that isn't the whole story, as some leading Democrats are beginning to realize. If we're going to be honest about what's happened in the last 30 or 40 years, the new iteration of the Democratic Party has embraced hocus-pocus neoliberal theory that is not much different from trickle-down economics.

Under a President Donald Trump, the Republican Party would become a different one, a broad, populist coalition of workers. “Five, 10 years from now — different party. You’re going to have a worker’s party," Trump said in the May 17 interview. “When I made my [announcement] speech at Trump Tower, the June 16 speech,” Trump said, “I didn’t know about the Gang of Eight."

Donald Trump’s economic adviser Stephen Moore told a group of top Republicans last week that they now belong to a fundamentally different political party. Moore surprised some of the Republican lawmakers assembled at their closed-door whip meeting last Tuesday when he told them they should no longer think of themselves as belonging to the conservative party of Ronald Reagan. They now belong to Trump’s populist worker's party, he said.
