Are we too obsessed with WWE?

Postby DoomYoshi on Fri Oct 06, 2017 5:47 am

Is the western world still too focused on and traumatized by Wrestlemania events that it still dictates current events? I read some articles that it's probably time to forget Hulk Hogan. What do you think?

I miss the old days of wrestling, when the only performance enhancements were cigars and beer.

Andre the Giant and Ravishing Rick Rude are both dead. That leaves Hulk Hogan as the only remaining wrestler whose name I know. If we were to forget him, I would know literally nothing about wrestling.

I just read the wiki article on Brett Hart's betrayal when he wanted to leave the WWE (then WWF).

Actual WWE wrestling is boring, but it turns out that a bunch of 'roided up wrestlers and Machiavellian owners makes for a much more interesting
behind the scenes story.

The Montreal Screwjob

Hart proceeded to the dressing room to shower and change after discovering that McMahon, Brisco, and Remus had locked themselves in McMahon's office. When McMahon went to Hart's dressing room and tried to explain himself, Hart angrily rebuffed him and warned him to leave immediately or risk being punched.[7][31] An altercation ensued, with Hart giving McMahon a single punch, dropping him to the floor. Although Vince's son, Shane McMahon, and Brisco struggled briefly with Hart and Davey Boy Smith, Hart told them to take McMahon and leave or risk similar consequences.[32] Hart angrily asked McMahon if he was going to screw him on the pay he was still owed, to which a groggy McMahon replied in the negative.[7]

I worked for Acclaim when McMahon and Fischbach had their spat. All of the WWE posters in the Glenn Cove headquarters got deliberately defaced and they signed a contract with ECW (Extreeme Championship Wrestling) fun times having those guys in the same booth as the Olsen Twins.

That's funny, in a "wouldn't want to have worked there at the time" kinda way.

Is it weird that I find the behind the scenes stuff about wrestling much more interesting than the staged bouts?

It's weirdly secretive, and much more nutso.

Well since the motion capture studio was also at the corporate headquarters, we managed to get a private ECW event.

But it was really crazy when we released the game of third person shooter game using stuffed animals. "FLUFF YOU!" ... you had to be there.

Unfortunately, not the guy in charge or his son. The pen giveaway with the furry tops (odd colors) was one thing. The giving out of the Fur Fighters underwear (Briefs, obviously) was definitely odd. (I still have them somewhere.)

Remember: If Acclaim was known for not having bad ideas they would still be in business.

I did really like the Turok games, I wish they would have done more comic-themed games though. Shadowman wasn't all that great.
