I think they were trying to protect him. As Kim said, it obviously backfired, but I think their intentions were good.

Anyway, it certainly wasn't "at his expense". I'm sure he gets paid the same whether he's on that assignment or a different one.

Same here. I don't watch college sports ever, except by accident, and never heard of this guy until you posted this.

I don't think he or his family are in any danger. He may even get a boost to his career as a result of the affair. Who knows, there may be a bestselling book "How I Became Famous Because of a Silly Coincidence" and then a speaking tour and a movie....

1) He didn't really oppose slavery, but as, and I quote from the man, he thought it "“a greater evil to the white man than to the black race” in the United States, and that the “painful discipline they are undergoing, is necessary for their instruction.”. So, he didn't really oppose it.
