Da Eclipse

Postby KoolBak on Sun Aug 13, 2017 3:44 pm

Anyone doing anything for this? I guess Oregon is rated a great place to view it from from for whatever reason. planning on going to our unfinished vaca cabin in central Oregon for it....100% eclipse there. News says like a MILLION people migrating to central Oregon to watch this?? what in the actual f*ck?? Hotels and homeowners charging out the wazoo for a spot to watch? Amazing.

Come join me for free.... bring beer!

I remember the last one, like in the ate seventies? Was riding my dirtbike....communing with nature..''. weed wasn't legal back then....lol

It should be FUN, cool, and interesting. I will be in a zone 85%.

I think there is one in 2024 from Texas Gulf area toward Ohio and then Easter Canada.

I think I will try to get into the 100% zone then, JUS to "see" it.

Thanks for starting this topic.

I went to see the Perseid meteor shower last night. Not exactly on topic, I guess, but related.

Don't know about the eclipse yet. I don't really have any plans that far into the future. I'm very lucky when I know what I'm doing tomorrow.

From this site...

http://www.eclipse2017.org/2017/path_through_the_US.htm

95% at home...100% in Prineville (central oregon)....fairly limited for most of the US I guess. Read where people are flying in from all over the country....honestly dont get spending that kinda cash on this?

I live about a two hour drive from being in the path of totality. Was thinking about possibly viewing it from Clemson, they are also hosting some events around it. I just haven't decided how much traffic I'm willing to deal with yet. I expect it will be pretty heavy especially around the more major locations.

Hopefully no clouds will diminish the impact of the viewing. That is one reason I did not attempt to get closer (I live in VA); the weather is too unpredictable. Even if it rains, the event will be spectacular, from what I know.

Between the f*ck all traffic that's already notorious on I5, coupled with the equally notoriously shitty drivers the great NW produces, I'll stick it out at home and try to enjoy what little I will see. Not worth my time, effort and blood pressure to try and see this.

I'm not sure what zone I'm in but im fairly close. I think I'll see how close I can get without running into too much traffic.

I'll probably have to settle for the Slooh online stream. I'll be too far to really see anything safely (except reflections).

On my way to Portland. Meeting up with some UK friends who have been eclipse fanatics ever since the 2000AD in the Uk - they've been to Japan, Africa, somewhere or another on a boat, maybe more.

If it's true that the End Times come immediately after the eclipse, I just want to say that I'm happy to have known all of you.

PM me an address, we'll see what we can do. I'm in Carson !8th and 19th, in Oregon City on the 20th, Portland for the eclipse and the day after. Not sure what the agenda is generally, most of the organizing has been done by other people. I know there's some sort of beer tour at one point. (Not that my whole life isn't a "beer tour").

Well shit, if you're going to be in Oregon City on the 20th, I can try and make it down there. Not the greatest choice of bars in the immediate area, but I know the region enough to get by.

I was just south of bend this last weekend at Paulina lake. All the campgrounds are already reserved. There were a shitload of promotion stuff all through bend and sisters. I'll probably just stay in town, maybe go east along hwy 20 some where there won't be much people.

I'm in the mid-upper 70's range right now. I'd be interested in going closer to 100% especially since the rarity of the event but work kinda gets in the way of that.
