Music thread, you know the drill, post songs that you misheard lyrics.

Easy example-
Song: "Purple Haze" by Jimi Hendrix
What you heard: "Excuse me while I kiss this guy"
Actually:"''Excuse me while I kiss the sky"

Actual: Relax yourself,please settle down.
Herd: Relax yourself,peace settle down.

So many that my family gives me endless shit about....of course I still sing em wrong

I know, I know this is the most obvious one ever...

Heard: wrapped up like a douche, in the middle of the night
actual: revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night

This one is reasonably well-known to be misheard too. So much that they made a video for the misheard lyrics:



And to the point where it would be too long trying to post all of the misheard and corrected lyrics.

I'll just stick with where they say "Potato wave" as "They don't wave."

Of course mumbled, garbled lyrics are pretty much a staple of both Nirvana and Pearl Jam but this one takes it to a new level (and a few cases for Pearl Jam it was intentionally pronounced between different words in the song like in "Daughter", "Violins" sounds a lot like "Violence")*

Then there's Stone Temple Pilots channeling the mumbled vocals of the former two bands into their song "Trippin' on a hole In a Paper Heart"

Originally misheard: "I am, I am, I am, I am myself. I'm not here and I'm not myself."

Then I thought it was: "I am, I am myself Im not myself. I'm not here and I'm not yourself."

Actual: "I am, I am, I said, 'I'm not myself.' I'm not dead and I'm not for sale."'



*I don't know enough about Nirvana to know if they ever did the same trick in any of their songs.

Recalled my first one...I was 7 in 1969 when Norman Greenbaum released Spirit in the Sky...LOVED that song and still do. In the chorus it says "Gonna go to the place thats the best" and to this day I still hear / think "Gonna go to the place past the fair".....lol. Think I was 25 before I realized it...always wondered what fair he was goin on about
