Are the Goranzes of this world about to go banzai on each other?

Macedonia has become the latest theatre in a tug-of-war between the West and Russia over the future of the Western Balkans.

...“[We must] avoid that this political and institutional crisis becomes an inter-ethnic conflict or, even worse, a geopolitical one,” EU foreign relations chief Federica Mogherini said after meeting Ivanov in Skopje on Thursday.

...Nato head Jens Stoltenberg and the US ambassador to Macedonia, Jess L. Baily, echoed her views. “I look to the authorities in Skopje to fulfil the next step in the democratic process,” Stoltenberg said. Baily, who also met Ivanov, said his decision was “inconsistent with basic democratic principles and the rule of law which are core values of Nato.”

...The Russian foreign ministry said on Thursday that EU and Nato had caused the crisis and that they endorsed the creation of a “greater Albania” in the region. “The political crisis in Macedonia [was] provoked by the gross external interference in the country’s internal affairs,” Russia said.

...Some 15,000 supporters of former Macedonian prime minister Nikolai Gruevski and his VMRO-DPMNE party, which stands to lose power after 11 years in office, chanted anti-Albanian and anti-EU slogans such as “EU hands off Macedonia”. Gruevski won the most seats in the election, but his party, which is embroiled in a corruption scandal, failed to build a coalition.

Macedonia is home to some 500,000 ethnic Albanians who make up 25 percent of the population.

I will only add that although ethnic Albanian make up 25 percent of the official population(according to the census from 2002) they received only 17 percent of the votes. Census is needed but no one is willing to make it because of political repercussions of it.

One sword two blades and no democracy(as in the rest of Europe), no option to vote for no one. There wont be civil war as in Ukraine regardless of the outcome of Macedonian crisis.

P.S. I'm against Russian stance concerning the crisis in my country.

Macedonia is a cesspool of filth, corruption and bad food. No wonder Greece wants to keep their border closed to this septic field of a country.

I read an article a while back saying that 90% of pro-Trump websites are based in this one Macedonian village where Google Adsense pays more than the GDP of the country.

It is a well-known truth that Croats are the only ex-Yugoslavians who were right.

This statement is extremely wrong... many pro trump sites were register from Macedonian town Veles, but the income from Google Ad-sense was probably not bigger then half a million $.

Correct classification... Macedonian military victory, political defeat.

There wont be new war/unrest in Macedonia, Putin mixed the cards pretty good ;)

Its same like in 1999 in Yugoslavia- Military was not defeated but political disaster.
But situation change a lot- in 1999 and 2001 Russia had very weak army and bad economy, so NATO-EU-USA Powers dont have real opponent to stop hes policy of interference in other countries and causing many conflict. We will see what will now be when Russia are back and have some influence.
