My mouse has stopped working out of the blue, when I tried another mouse that I know works fine, it still wouldn't work.
Right now I'm stuck navigating with my keyboard (it sucks!)
so, any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

throw the whole lot out, and buy a new PC.
(not the cheapest option, but i bet it would work.
hit the mouse against a wall a few times.
this will either fix the issue, or make you feel better after you have reduced the mouse to it's component atoms.

Hold on, I'm writing something up (with screen shots) that may help.

Computers hate all organic lifeforms, whether they be you, me or the squirrel in the local park. There's really nothing you can do. Except try to teach your PC the laws of gravity by flinging it out of the window closest to you.

no no no no
rule of thumb: 95% computer problems are solved with a restart... did you reboot your computer?
always always when something doesn't work.. reboot... then try anything else..
if it's plugged in properly, has batteries, and still doesn't work after restart, then follow Xenhu's instructions, if the mouse is not there... then look for the drivers..

if none of the above works, you could always zoom out with the button in the lower right corner, then you could see the whole screen without arrow-navigation

It would seem like your keyboard isn't working either.
In all seriousness, I just tried, and you can, in fact, do what I described without a mouse.

Yeah I know, I just did
yes I've restarted multiple times (this problem started yesterday)
It registers the mouse, but the P.O.S. still won't work
I think it's probably the port, but I'm not sure
thank you for helping me so far

touchpads suck... I cannot think of any thing you do on a computer that would be easier with a touchpad
