- Fruit: pretty self-explanatory; low on fats and fruits usually have healthier types of sugars in them.
- Proteins: Proteins feel much heavier on the stomach than sugars and fats do, giving you the feeling of being full much faster. There are a lot of options, though obviously you should avoid nuts and fatty meats(high calorie-count). Eggs, lean meats like chicken, etc. should do well.
- Water: Oft times the human body will send the brain signals of hunger when all it needs is water. So drinking a lot of water should help much of the time.
Personally I'd advise you to count calories. I know it sounds silly and girly and whatever, but I used to do it myself and it really helps. It's not a perfect system but it's still the best system there is. Create an excell-file for yourself and check the numbers on the packages. Count your daily calorie intake for a period of 2+ weeks and believe me it'll open your eyes. You'll be much more aware of what foods you should and shouldn't eat and it'll show you how much certain snacks actually add. People generally underestimate how much they eat and this is a great way of mitigating that problem. If you don't know the nutrients in certain foods, because there's no nutrient table mentioned, check out the following website:

I don't ... unless you count work. However ...

I have a nut allergy ... so this is perfect for me.
I think I found it at CVS.

It might be bogus because I found it on the internet but if you can eat nuts, Almonds are supposed to be one of the, "eat these foods to get a six pack" items. The click bait said to soak them in water, then add cayenne pepper to them after they have absorbed some water. Then use them as a snack.
I just grabbed a can and use it if I am really needing a snack. So far the can has lasted over a month so at least I'm not going to overdose on them. They seem to work well, if I feel like I want something to eat at an inappropriate time I grab a smallish amount of almonds and eat them instead of a piece of pizza.
Make sure you are eating at least four times a day. Smaller amounts more often is better than eating two big meals because your body stores things if it is not sure when the food is coming next.

Almonds, like all nuts has a lot of fats actually, but they have a lot of proteins as well. Meaning if you are the kind of person who does a lot of weight training(your six pack foods), they might be great for you, if not you might be better off with something else.
To show an example:
100 gr. Chicken breast= 168 calories, 8% fats
100 gr. Almonds= 578 calories, 50% fats

That's not the only factor at work. A lot of dieting is about taking time to eat. Mashed potatoes make you fat not just because they're loaded with carbs, but also because they practically dissolve in your mouth and you can shovel them in almost without chewing. Things like almonds help with weight control not just because they've got a good balance of protein and unsaturated fat, but also because they're hard and crunchy and take a long time to chew.
Celery is known as "the dieter's best friend" because it takes so long to chew you burn as many calories as you eat. Other hard crunchy things like raw vegetables and nuts are good for the same reason. What is really, really, really good is if you get almonds and other nuts in the shell and have to sit there with a nutcracker opening them. That really stretches out the time to eat them and reduces the caloric intake per unit time.

Well if we're mentioning more factors anyway, I feel the need to mention you should also watch out for salts. Many, if not most, packaged nuts contain added salts which are detrimental to your weight loss regime.

I always thought it was silly to count calories, especially when everyone's body works in its unique way. I'm not that obsessed about my weight and I prefer to get a general idea about the nutritional value of foods and work it out in my head.

That sounds interesting. Almonds support brain health as they are rich in l-carnitine and other nutrients that improve brain function and activity. It can boost memory which is something I'm very interested in. Walnuts are also good for your brain -- love them! Better than those
hyped up supplements and smart pills being pushed everywhere these days.

That sounds interesting, but who's gonna clean the mess?
The laws of thermodynamics argue otherwise. If you input fewer calories than you use, you'll lose weight. That's the simplest way. You could eat 1500 cals of pure sugar, but if you're utilizing 2000 a day you'll drop the weight.
Now, that's not advisable, since pure sugar would also kick in major insulin production and mess with fat storage (less than optimized weight loss), but you get the idea.
Body metabolism isn't as unique as you think it is. There's a small range of variance, but nothing special.
