What a game from Austin Matthews in his debut. 4 goals in the first two periods. Leafs fans have to be excited about having him.
Unfortunately for Leafs fan, the final score was Ottawa 5, Matthews 4 in OT. Sounds like it'll be a long year, Toronto.

They should probably trade him for not winning the game.

The Red Wings tonight were led by their new players, as Thomas Vanek scored a pair, and Frans Nielsen got one. Wings lost to Tampa 6-4.
Going to be a long season in Detroit.

Rangers 5 - Islanders 3

I don't think it's going to be a happy time in Brooklyn.
I hate Manhattan
The Bronx and Staten Island too

4 goals in debut and still lost. Welcome to the leafs.

Sharks got off to a good start. Can't wait for Meier to show up :/
Meier + LaBanc will be fun to watch hopefully sometime this season, maybe next year. I can't see Marleau coming back unless he takes a huge cut in pay. Thornton I guess comes back on a year to year basis like Jagr.

I'm interested to see how the new Colorado coach works out. If we lost Roy I'd like to see some progress since everyone likes to blame him.

The Red Wings have no defense. I can't see their streak hitting 26 years. It's going to be a tough year of hockey in Detroit.

Detroit lives in me, I am Detroit!! .... or what's left of it. I'm suprised the Red wings can still get enough people in the seats to make it worth staying, but maybe a relocation isn't too far away in the future, I'm working hard to bring them to Sweden, that's the swedish mafias long term plan. It's gonna be long travels for the visitors but still not further than when you go to Edmonton.

Recap from the Empire Writes Back

The Good: Hey the train ride went well both ways.
The Bad: Going into overtime when I have a 90 minute train ride and then an additional 20 minute drive.
The Ugly: Half of the phone recharge stations were broke.

Getting the T Shirt which we sort of used like a rally towel ... PRICELESS.

Really? They have "phone recharge stations" in stadiums now? Why the f*ck can people not live in the moment and pay attention to the game without jerking off on their stupid phones?

This generation disgusts me.

They are connected to some stupid photo booth from one of the minor cellphone carriers.

When I saw the playoffs my seat was on the last row right against the metal wall. There was actually a power outlet there. That was heaven.

I have to go and get my phone fixed / replaced. Believe it or not the only thing not working is the power button. It hasn't been off in weeks.

Mike Green had his first career hat trick as the Red Wings won their last ever home opener at Joe Louis Arena, beating Ottawa 5-1.

For one game at least, we had the illusion that everything would be alright.

I like it, not to use but allows me a fully charged phone for driving directions home, photos before / after, etc.

You can't use a belt as a boot, silly.

Wings successfully defended the belt on Wednesday, defeating New York 2-1. The Wings defense looked like shit, but Jimmy Howard was outstanding and stole the game.

Tonight, Detroit trails Nashville 2-1 with 2 minutes left int he 2nd period at Joe Louis Arena. Can the Wings come back? We'll see. I'm betting the belt is on it's way to the Music City.

So much for my prediction skills. Detroit would tie the game at 2 before the end of the period. The 3rd belonged to Detroit, as they skate away with a 5-3 victory.
I'll have the pleasure of watching the Wings continue their defense of the belt tomorrow night against the Sharks live from The Joe.

Defeating who? Oh you meant the Rangers ... never mind.

If you know the Rangers suck, clap your hands!

In other news, while a quartet gig (some nice couple's 60th wedding anniversary) prevented me from being in Brooklyn, the Islanders defeated Arizona 3-2. I did watch the first few minutes of the game where the Islanders scored first.

The only undefeated teams in regulation are both Canadian right now as Montreal and the Vancommies are both 4-0-1.

I bought a case of Molson's and got a free Maple Laffs tuque. I sure as hell won't be caught dead wearing it. What can I do with it? Can I give it to charity? Would any charity accept it, or would they consider it cruel and unusual punishment to even make winos wear it?

This shit would have never happened when Labatt's owned the Laffs and Molson's owned the Habs. Back then people knew who's who and what's what.

Molson still owns the Habs.

Either way, the Mecca last night was a great time. Got to hear the famous goal song 5 times and see Dancing Larry and the end-game salute. It didn't work out quite the way I predicted. I was getting kind of sick to the stomach with the New York accent (it's like masturbating geese) and then of course I get stuck in a section of Boston fans from Boston with an even worse accent. Buncha hosers.
