I never thought YOU of all people would put Mao in that list.

You are right, it is sad that Grandpa Mao is sometimes maligned (by ignorant Americans) as being comparable to Hitler :(

Alas, I didn't make that picture. I just decided to post it anyway because the key point it makes is that Barroso and Rompuy are unelected demagogues.

Also, coming from a Belgian, the only reason Van Rompuy was chosen to be president of the EU was because he's a tool. France and Germany wanted someone they could push back and forth.

And the UK's worst nightmare. At the beginning of the 20th century already brittons knew that if any single major power would come to dominate continental europe the british empire would be turned into a mere sattelite state. In other words the british are fucked whether or not they remain in the EU.

tbh Germany dominating the EU isn't so bad. The Germans have their heads screwed on straight, and there's quite a lot of common ground between the UK and Germany/Netherlands/Scandinavian countries. The nightmare scenario is France coming to dominate the EU, but happily France played themselves out of contention quite some time ago.

Except for immigration issues, I agree. I just wish the british would see it the same way. It just seems like the british like their independence more out of nationalism and principality than anything else.

I think it's that the British don't see WW2 as a defeat in the same way that pretty much every other European country does, so the British (in general) don't really value the integration and unity aspect of the EU like others do. Quite a lot of British want the EU to act as a trade organization and nothing more, and so perceive any handing of power from London to Brussels for reasons other than strengthening the common market as a deal which causes the UK to lose out.

Obviously this line of thinking has some fairly questionable merit, but to the best of my understanding that's basically why the British are relatively more resistant to the idea of EU integration than other European nations are.

I don't think he ever got a Bachelor of Science.

My bad, he did get a BS in PS in 1964 from the U of C.
