The whole 'black lives matter' issue is ridiculous and is a mere side-effect to widespread fear among american police officers when confronted with an armed populace.

More like a lot of people are now in a position to point things out. Institution Racism is a huge problem.

I agree, but far from as big of a problem as some of these activists like to make it. You can't blame an officer to be a bit on edge when faced with a delinquent, who may or may not be carrying a concealed weapons.

Presumption of guilt doesn't bother you at all?

But, if we did that, the right wing Republicans would scream for gun control!

It does, but so does human nature. You can't blame a person for a normal psychological reaction. Put police officers in dangerous situations and they are bound to make mistakes. Mortality rates for crimes are higher in the US than they are in the rest of the western world.
Symmetry wrote:I think that's where the concept of institutional racism comes in to play. The individuals in the institution are not necessarily racist, but the structure of the system they operate in is inherently discriminatory and enforces a larger racist system.
I know, I know, sounds like academic nonsense, but it's pretty solid if you look past the big words. The Black Lives Matter movement is the same argument from grassroots. Targeting individuals who are racist does nothing when the system is the problem.
