Bernie Sanders Rally Closes Homeless Warming Shelter

For shame Bernie. Think of the poor freezing homeless people! Bernie Sanders Rally Closes Birmingham Homeless Warming Shelter On Freezing Night.

Cold are the people,
Winter of life,
We tremble in shadows
this cold endless night,
Frozen in the snow
lie roses sleeping,
Flowers that will echo
the sunrise,
Fire of hope
is our only warmth,
Weary, its flame
will be dying soon.

In Birmingham, AL Monday night, Bernie Sanders held a rally at the Boutwell Auditorium which left the homeless people of Birmingham nowhere to go on one of the most bitterly cold nights. The Boutwell has always been one of the main stations in Birmingham to house and warm the homeless.

"We've never had a night like this where it will be in the teens and we weren't able to open," said Don Lupo, of the mayor's office of citizen's assistance.

Voice in the distance,
call in the night,
On wind you enfold us
you speak of the light,
Gentle on the ear
you whisper softly,
Rumors of a dawn
so embracing,
Breathless love awaits
darkened souls,
Soon will we know
of the morning.

"I knew last week that the city used the warming station upstairs, but not downstairs. We had no idea that the warming station would be closed. We were downstairs, they would be upstairs. That's what we knew," said Kelvin Datcher, state director for the Sanders campaign.

Excuses and finger pointing from both sides ensued, but that is beside the point. Bernie Sanders's platform is to help the homeless and he failed Monday night in the most simple of terms. The task at hand was to keep the homeless people warm and the Bernie campaign failed. As the old saying goes, "you had one job."

You failed Bernie. I'm so disappointed in you.

First of all, my personal opinions are polar opposite to that of Bernie Sanders. We may have the occasional common gripe but the solution is the polar opposite. My fundamental principle is the Catholic notion of Subsidiarity. That's federalism on steroids; the best government is that closest to the people. Be that as it may, there are many disappointments I have with Bernie Sanders. The chief of them is that he reminds me of Romney. He's too polite.

Hillary Clinton is a crook and an accomplice to her criminal husband. She is everything you should absolutely hate. That Benghazi thing? She screwed her own ambassador because she was making a financial deal with her long time partner in crime to invest in floating hospitals to be used in war zones and you can't have them without an actual killing war. That was the whole Libya connection. She sent documents that were above top secret through highly unsecured channels and were definitely intercepted by enemy powers. How many of our top secret assets have been exposed because of her careless lack of regard for those who basically put their lives on the line for her. And you treat her like any other establishment Democrat? Trust me that if you can't take her down Putin will pwn you.

NO, if you really want to care for the poor you have to really care for the poor. When optics seem more important than principles, you loose something in my eyes.

Republicans care more for the poor than Democrats.

Democrats only want the poor for their votes.
Democrats need the poor as a dependent class in order to guarantee their loyalty and votes.
Democrats will do ANYTHING to keep the poor in the dependent classes in order to maintain their power.

Why the U.S. has a culture of dependency
The problem is that Washington is building a culture of dependency, with ever-more people relying on an ever-growing federal government to give them cash or benefits.
This is a growing and dangerous trend. The United States thrives because of a culture of opportunity that encourages work and disdains relying on handouts. The growth of the welfare state, a confusing alphabet soup of programs that are supposed to help low-income Americans make ends meet and do not include entitlements such as Social Security or Medicare, is turning us into a land where many expect, and see no stigma attached to, drawing regular financial support from the federal government.
Under a culture of dependency, poverty becomes a trap, and recipients get stuck. Long-term welfare recipients lose work habits and job skills and miss out on the marketplace contacts that lead to job opportunities.

Here is the tl;dr version.

Democrats love to give people fish and as a result become the sole suppliers of fish.
Republicans give out fishing poles and teach people how to fish, so they can get their own fish.

And do you want to know something? Fishing is fun!

It's hard to fish, if you live in the inner city.

Meanwhile a Republican Governor from Michigan knows how to care for the poor, let them have lead and they can drink it too! Such Republican compassion, heh?

A metaphor, hmmm, ok. Lead helps sweeten the water in Flint Michigan. Meanwhile, Detroit schools that have been under Republican STATE control are falling apart.

It's so nice that Republicans care so much for poor families in poor neighborhoods.

Wrong my old misguided friend.

The Detroit School system is under State control, ever since Detroit went bankrupt. Just like Flint. Both cases, Republican Governor installed a manager to run things on the cheap. Screw the health and welfare of children, right? I mean they are BLACK children, right?

Thanks to the compassionate Republicans, who really do care for the poor!

Don't worry though, President Obama will help the children who are poisoned with high lead concentration. He sent a team there and looks like the Federal Government will intervene.

There's now demands for the Republican Governor to resign.

ROTFLMAO

The city of Detroit, Michigan, filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy on July 18, 2013.

Ground Control to Major Tom ... It's been under Democratic Control for over 50 years. It's been post bankruptcy for less than 3.

(Now if you want to get technical, it's the Detroit Teachers Unions that control the schools. I don't think they are Republican.)

Since this isn't New Jersey, I don't see a case where the governor is going to attack the unions. The state manages finances, nothing more.

So, I'm going to ignore the last three years, for a moment and bring out the BIG GUNS.

What’s Really Wrong with Detroit Public Schools

Last year, DPS students’ scores on the National Assessment of Educational Progress were the lowest of all large urban districts in the United States, as the Detroit News reported in December 2009.

Wikipedia
In 2007, Education Week published study that claimed that Detroit Public School's graduation rate was 24.9%.[16] Groups including state and local officials said that the study failed to take into account high school students who leave the district for charter schools, other school districts or who move out of the area. Detroit Public Schools claim that in 2005-2006 the graduation rate was 68 percent graduation rate and expected it to hold constant in 2006-2007 [17][18][19] On February 14, 2009, the Detroit Free Press reported that United States Secretary of Education Arne Duncan had concern over the quality of education Detroit children are receiving. A spokesman later stated that Duncan had no specific plans for Detroit. The students in Detroit's public schools perennially score at the bottom compared to other large urban school systems.[20]

Financially, the school system has been under state control several times, including under a Democratic governor.

SOURCE
T’S NO SECRET that the Detroit Public Schools have been in a state of chaos for some time. When former Democratic governor Jennifer Granholm appointed Robert Bobb as Emergency Financial Manager in 2009, many hoped that he would make positive changes. The district was carrying a $219 million deficit, not to mention some of the country’s lowest graduation rates and standardized test scores.

Back to the Wikipedia source
On December 8, 2008, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Mike Flanagan determined the district's inability to manage its finances and declared a financial emergency.[29] Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm appointed Robert Bobb as the emergency financial manager of Detroit Public Schools in 2009 to manage the school districts finances. His contract dictates a one-year tenure. The school district began selling 27 previously closed school buildings. On March 3, 2009, Bobb initially estimated that DPS's current year deficit would be no less than $150M, requested early payments from the state to meet payroll, and indicated that more additional outside auditors will be required to properly assess the district's financial situation.

In March 2009, Robert Bobb declared that the school district had 150 million dollar budget deficit, only including debts that he was aware of. Twenty million dollars of that money is owed to the district's pension system.[36] The DPS school board complained in that same year that the then deficit of $65 million for 2007–2008 school year was caused by accounting irregularities, including fringe benefits and paying teachers off of the books. Much of the deficit was discovered by outside auditors invited by former district Superintendent Connie Calloway in 2008.[37]

The 2008–2009 edition of the Michigan Department of Education's ranking of Michigan Public School financial data showed the mean Detroit Public School teacher's salary stood at $71,031, more than 14% higher than the state average of $62,237.[38] During the same period, the Michigan cohort graduation rate was 80.1%, while Detroit Public Schools' cohort graduation rate was 67.39%, 16% lower than the state average.[39]

List of Governors ...

G. Mennen Williams 1-Jan-49 1-Jan-61 Democratic
John Swainson 1-Jan-61 1-Jan-63 Democratic
George W. Romney 1-Jan-63 22-Jan-69 Republican
William Milliken 22-Jan-69 1-Jan-83 Republican
James Blanchard 1-Jan-83 1-Jan-91 Democratic
John Engler 1-Jan-91 1-Jan-03 Republican
Jennifer Granholm 1-Jan-03 1-Jan-11 Democratic
Rick Snyder 1-Jan-11 Incumbent Republican

You can't blame it on Republicans. The district was going to hell in a hand basket during the Granholm administration.

The emergency managers control the funding right now in Flint Michigan and the School District in Detroit.

No need to bring up history prior to the State taking over the finances of Flint and Detroit.

Flint Is Not a Republican Scandal

What we learned from Hurricane Katrina: No matter what happens, it’s never the governor’s fault. What we’ve learned from the contaminated drinking water in Flint, Mich.: It’s always the governor’s fault.

Prior to and separate from the current water crisis, Flint was in a state of financial ruination. In one of the most liberal cities in the United States, Flint’s Democrat-dominated government did what Democrat-monopoly governments do in practically every city they control: It spent money as quickly as it could while at the same time carpet-bombing the tax base with inept municipal services, onerous regulations, high taxes, and the like. As a result of this, a bankrupt Flint entered into a state of receivership, meaning that an emergency manager — or emergency financial manager, depending upon Michigan’s fluctuating fiscal-emergency law — was appointed by state authorities and given power to supersede local elected officials in some matters, especially financial ones. The contamination happened while Flint was under the authority of an emergency manager who, though a Democrat, had been appointed to the post by Michigan’s Republican governor, Rick Snyder. He was, in fact, the most recent in a long line of emergency managers, Flint having failed for years to emerge from its state of fiscal emergency.

In sum: The Democratic government of a Democratic city destroys that city’s finances so thoroughly that it must go into state receivership; a Democratic emergency manager signs off on a consensus plan to use a temporary water source; the municipal authorities in that Democratic city responsible for treating and monitoring drinking water fail to do their job; a state agency whose employees work under the tender attention of SEIU Local 517 fails to do its job overseeing the local authorities; Barack Obama’s EPA, having been informed about the issue, keeps mum.

Flint is nothing more than a miniature Detroit. And Detroit is what Democrats do.

Wrong again my friend.

They [Republican emergency manager] wanted to cut corners. You know the drill, fuk the poor bastards.

Thousands of babies and children now have large amounts of lead in their systems.

Public health and safety is a number 1 priority and should never be in danger of being risked to balance the budget. Besides that Tzor, the small savings between 1 million to 2 million dollars to stop using Detroit water and sucking water out of the river, will now cost tens of millions of dollars to remedy the health problems resorting to this money saving scheme.

Like usual, the US government or shall we say all Americans throughout America is going to pick up the tab for the mistakes of Conservatives in Michigan.
